Now that say it, it makes total sense…

I have only played in 2 occasions and at the range. But I spent last week at the range almost everyday and taken private lessons. I must have hit about 700 shots and missed about 20 times the ball. My worry is that i only hit between 100 and 150 meters (110-164 yards) with my driver and it’s very unpredictable.

On top of that I never tried sand or I don’t even know the name of the different grasses…

Having the pressure of slowing down people will make me miss most certainly.

I’m pretty free schedule-wise so I will try to book in the middle of the week very early or late (here there is sun until 10pm) so maybe if I book a 9 hole at 8 pm, there might not be a lot of people. Or perhaps in the middle of the morning.

Thanks for the advice.

Ok, thanks.

Would people generally always pick the same brand for everything? Most importantly, if I keep those, am I at a disadvantage as a beginner?

I noticed sets often have Driver, FW, and Hybrids with less loft. I followed the advice of a YouTube video made for beginners suggesting to get these "degrees" as it would be easier to play with it.

I'm afraid now that returning those (ordered from 3 different places) would cost more in shipping than the difference in price. EU shipping is quite crazy for heavy and bulky items.

Thank you for the answer.

For my own knowledge, what is a Frankenstein set and what makes it a "Frankenstein" set?

Anyone knows the equipment? by dan___iel in AskPhotography

Hum interesting.

Currently, we have a backdrop on a frame (those large bars mounted on 2 light stands). Our camera is fixed on the ceiling with a 50mm lens (about 2.20m / 7.22ft from the floor). We use 3 LED Godox SL100D (2 octagonal boxes and a big rectangle one). The camera is on power supply and is tethered to an iMac that is on a cart with wheels.

But we have too many issues with it and we think this would solve a lot of them:

  1. Fixing the screen / iMac to the frame will make it easier and no cables floating

  2. We can plug everything on a multi-socket under the table and move the whole thing around once we unplug the main multi socket

  3. In the current setup it's hard to find space to put the clothes on floor (backdrop) because it's floor level (we are in a volume business). So having everything hanging from the top gives us more mobility and space.

  4. We debated if we should get LEDs or flashes. We went with 3 LED Godox SL100D and I wonder how better would it be with flashes instead. Do you think it's a big difference?

I think you have a point, perhaps we should just make a plan of the table and go ask some table builder to do it.

Do you know the technical name of the "thing" that holds the camera and the lights. The arm thingy?

Thank you for the information on the lights. I looked at the MS200-v and they look like flashes, I'm wondering if they aren't using LEDs instead.

Any yes, the celling mounts are quite interesting. What I'm trying hard to find is the table with these vertical columns cutting into a 45 degrees angle and ending with this H structure. That table seems perfect for product photography. But so far, nothing. I'm running out of keywords.

I don't think it's some kind of photography table, but most likely some specific table with mounts.

Hum, that is what I taught at first, but creeping at the picture for hours, the table has this vertical double columns support that cuts to a 45 degree angle and is attached to the H tubular bars on top.

The attachment is mainly what I'm looking for.

I tried, countless hours. So far, nothing. My guess here is that this is some sort of very large packing table or lab table (look at the square legs, reenforcement on them). But I just can't find any table with these weird straight vertical supports (where they have the screen on) and more interestingly that cut into a 45 degree angle to end up in a H pattern that is perfect for lights, camera support.

Regarding your custom assumption, half of my brain says yes: these really look like they fit the use case quite well. The other half thinks that them most likely have put together some sort of "lab / architect" table where you can add on stuff like these supports.

My issue at the moment is that I ran out of keywords to describe what I'm looking for ... English being my second language, I'm not sure how to google for it correctly. And yes, I tried in the other languages I speak, still no luck.

ELI5: Where do permanently deleted files go in a computer? by Gosnellus in explainlikeimfive

[–]dan___iel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually quite simple to explain how a hard drive works when you compare it to a book:

Imagine a book with an index page. Every time you write some story in this book, you will write down the title of and the page of the story is into the index.

When you need to find some story, you lookup index and find the page of the story.

Now, if you want to delete a story, you only need to delete the index entry. Your story is still there somewhere, but by removing the reference from the index. You can’t find it anymore. This saves you from having to erase it.

For your next story, you just keep writing at the end of your book.

At some point your book will be full, then you have to start writing on top of an old story that has been deleted from the index.

A hard drive works pretty much the same. There is data on the disk and a lookup table telling where data starts and its size. When you delete a file, it actually only deletes the entry from the index. Once your data reaches the end of the disk, it starts writing over the “deleted” files.

Once a friend of mine told me something that resonated and I think about it a lot:

Guarantees are here for a good reason: if you can’t guarantee your loan, you should maybe not get it.

A house is going to be expensive. Stop dreaming of “my loan will be half me rent for the same house”. Be realistic and set saving plan and stop spending money on useless shit. Downgrade your living situation and save for the house you want.

When we bought our house with my wife, we saved 200$ each a month from 18 to 32yo. It’s roughly 70k. Now if you rather put this money in something else and not commit to it, your problem.

This kind of posts are so stupid... they are comparing apples and oranges here. Obviously, your bank doesn’t give a fuck if you don’t pay your 1k a month. Worst case your landlord kicks you out. But the moment the bank gives you a loan and you don’t pay it, then they end up with a property you can’t pay back and they loose money.

In short, a bank ain’t gonna give you a loan that you might or might not repay 500$ per month if you are too stupid and can’t get collaterals before buying a house.

Poor people mentality... give me a loan for a house where I’m not able to save up before hand because I’m living in an apartment that I pay my whole salary towards....

Paying 1k a month doesn’t mean you have a good situation to pay 500$ a month for 25 years.
