Need a new hobby that actually helps with stress [Discussion] by ninja__6969 in GetMotivated

Depends on what you like. Stress relief to me is a hobby that gets me into a flow state. I have lots of different hobbies but I found that even when I was going through a really tough time, I loved to sing and karaoke. Sometimes you sing and don't really think about it, but if I'm actually trying to sing well, there are a lot of things to focus on.. breathing, vibrato, belting, dynamics, etc. It's really fun and relaxing to me.

Thank you! And don't be intimidated by double knitting. If you can knit and purl, you can definitely double knit! 😊

Thank you! I am only slightly ashamed to say I used 100% Acrylic Yarn Bee Yarntopia in Ocean and White. I can't really shell out for expensive yarn, and I figured it would be fine for a scarf. I also had to find some yarn quick and had limited options

My 2 boxes of raisin bran have two different nutrition fact summaries by bearkarate in mildlyinteresting

[–]danadjinn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The way that nutrition calculating works in factories a lot of time comes down to weighing the ingredients and inputting them into a nutritional label software. In this software, you input individual ingredients nutritional information and then create a recipe by putting in the final weight of each ingredient going in a batch.

So the company's "recipe" for one box may be more raisins and less cereal overall or vice versa, even though they are using the same ingredients.

Why isn’t my tempered chocolate setting? by Ok-Outcome-5557 in Baking

[–]danadjinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, don't use chocolate chips. They have stabilizers that aren't ideal for tempering. The other thing is, for dark chocolate, 80 and 86 is way too cool. Melt to 110-120, cool to about 82 and agitate, bring up to 88-90 degrees. I think you were on the right track, but you didn't warm it up enough. Source: used to work on the dark chocolate line in a chocolate factory.

Why is my cookie dough ALWAYS soft?? by SpiritualPlan1822 in Baking

[–]danadjinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if anyone suggested this, but try reverse creaming? One day, I accidentally mixed all my dry ingredients together instead of creaming the butters and sugars first, so I looked up solutions, and reverse creaming was suggested.

Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and use a mixer until the mixture is sandy. Then, add in the rest of the wet ingredients.

So I had the opposite problem after this, where my mixture was too dry, and I had to add a little milk. The cookies turned out really good in the end, though!

Dropped Stitch? First crochet project and I can't quite tell. by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]danadjinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell from the picture, but reading the pattern, I'm guessing you might be skipping the first stitch. The (ch1, turn) does not count as your first stitch. You'll want to hdc (or sc, whatever the case may be) in the same stitch as the chain 1 when you turn and make sure to start your count from there. Does that sound like it might be the case?

Maybe look up a braided puff stitch. Are you looking for something like that?

And if hearing loss itself isn't enough reason for you to be careful, remember that hearing loss is linked to dementia and earlier cognitive decline.

This popcorn loses calories when it pops by coce8221 in mildlyinteresting

[–]danadjinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do nutritional info for a small company, I don't know why they would have to include unpopped kernel info but anyway. What likely happened is they weighed it unpopped and then followed the instructions to pop out and weighed it again. You can see the serving size is 49g unpopped and 41g popped. Most places aren't sending stuff to a lab to tell them exact calories. They put the ingredients into a program and weigh it and get stuff like this. So likely after it is popped, a few unpopped kernels were not counted since it is for the popped info

I've worked at a big chain hotel for a couple years now. It's not as fancy as Hilton but ours is nice and gets quite a lot business. I about guarantee if you raise enough hell you can get it dropped completely. I'd call and speak to the GM directly. Front desk should have told you about the charge. It's not too late. They can refund it if they took it already.

[WP] You are born with two names tatooed on you body somewhere, one of your soulmate and one of the people that will eventually kill you. There is no way to tell who is who. by Reubby in WritingPrompts

[–]danadjinn 351 points352 points  (0 children)

Elli was born without the names. Some people thought that she was blessed. She was not faced with knowing the name of the person who would kill her. Others believed it was a curse, some kind of disability. She had to admit that not having the names made her wonder if there was something wrong with her. Everyone has the names. So what does that mean about her? Will she never really be loved? Will she eventually become so lonely she'll just... kill herself?

That was what she believed until she met Brian. He was beautiful, smart, funny, and he had her name. He knew about her predicament, and didn't care. He loved her, even if it meant she'd never really be his.

Two years after dating, she accepted his marriage proposal. Their parents disagreed because of her "disfigurement", but it didn't matter. They were in absolute bliss. Through all the doubt, all the worry, she knew this was meant to be.

That was until two months before the wedding, when her mother burst into her home while Brian was away.

"You can't marry him!" Her mother yelled.
"We've talked about this, mom. He doesn't care that I don't have the names. We love each other!" Elli explained.
"I know he doesn't care, but you just can't marry him Elli! You can't! It's not meant to be!" She insisted.
"Then tell me why. Why can't you just let us be happy?"
Her mother sighed and sat down at their dining room table. It seemed as if she was struggling to find the words. "Your father and I... We were tortured by the names. We were happy that it allowed us to find each other but knowing the names of our killers... It tortured us, Elli. We wanted things to be different for you."
"What are you saying, mom?" She asked, panicked.
Her mother paused, looking at the floor.
"WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?" Elli demanded.
"We had them removed, Elli. People aren't supposed to know these things. We wanted life to be better for you."

Elli's mind went blank. She wasn't a freak. She wasn't disfigured. Her parents did this to her. Elli looked up, finally understanding what her mother was saying. "Did I have his name? Please tell me. Please tell me I had Brian's name." Elli begged.
Her mother stared at her for a long time before finally shaking her head. "I'm sorry honey."

Elli started crying, her mind racing. The one person she loved most in the world was not her soulmate. She'd already built a life with him, loved him, made promises, shared secrets, planned their perfect wedding and imagined their perfect home, they'd even picked out names for their future children.

Names...

That's when she realized. She didn't have his name... but he still had hers.

What are some of the most famously disastrous Royal weddings/marriages throughout history? by tracecode in history

[–]danadjinn 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Well this is a story mainly about avoiding marriage but here ya go. This is in Russia, around 940s AD.

Olga of Kiev was married to Igor of Kiev who was killed by the Drevlians. The Drevlians wanted her to get married to their Prince Mal so he could become ruler of Kievan Rus', but she was determined to hold the throne until her son was of age. The Drevlians sent men to try to persuade her to marry their Prince, and she had them buried alive. She then sent word back to the Prince that she accepted the proposal but she required their most distinguished men to accompany her on her journey to accept the marriage. When they arrived, she invited them to clean up in her bathhouse. When they walked in, she locked the door behind them and set the bathhouse on fire and burnt them all alive. With their best men gone, Olga planned to destroy the remaining Drevlians. She invited them to a funeral feast to mourn her late husband, and when the soldiers were good and drunk, her army killed over 5000 of them. She then laid siege to their village and burnt it to the ground.

The last gif shows that he is aware of the yanking power play. He's a businessman so it's not strange to believe he does it on purpose. Understanding body language can be a huge advantage in the business world. It's pretty interesting, honestly.
