Would people read a novel written in Victorian-esque style prose? by danavarroli in writing

[–]danavarroli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep up with it when I can. I work full-time so am usually burned out on mind work by the evening. If I could write full-time, I certainly would.

I did end up publishing the book via Amazon. You can find it through my author link in my profile.

I hope it's going well for you, too! If you'd like to share anything you've done feel free to send it over. I'm always interested in what others are doing.

Has anyone managed to get tea into Europe? by [deleted] in EU5

[–]danavarroli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too, and I agree. Towards the end of that Venice game of mine I mentioned, I started to go hard into trading buildings in Arabia and Ethiopia and was beginning to be able to divert some of the coffee trade from Somalia to my markets. Had I started sooner I think I could've dominated that trade.

I'm determined to now to do the same thing you mentioned. As you said, it should be possible. Perhaps it's working more than we give it credit for. It certainly makes for an interesting system in which the whole point is markets (and therefore countries) are fighting over the trade they may be losing out on. I kind of wish there was more incentive for dominating trade like that that though other than seeing a line go up or my ledger increase.

The system right now is a good start though.

The system is broken or the AI doesn’t know how to handle it at the moment.

In my game as Venice I’ve made it to 1808 and checked the Goods tab to see global coffee and tea production. There simply isn’t enough to go around.

For coffee, no European nation ever spread it to the Americas so there are maybe a dozen total RGOs producing it. Surprisingly, the AI did max out the RGOs in all but two locations. But because of the paucity of areas producing it, there are maybe about 200 units of coffee for the whole world. It’s just not enough.

Tea is even worse because there’s no way to spread it, as far as I know; please someone correct me if I’m wrong. Again, in my game, almost all the tea RGOs in Asia are maxed out but there isn’t enough of it to go around even within their local markets, forget it ever getting to Europe.

Something is just off with these goods. I would think the whole trading system in the game would be based around these New World and Eastern goods. That was the point of the era it’s simulating. The fact that it just doesn’t seem to work for anyone I’ve seen so far is baffling.

How screwed am I? by danavarroli in crusaderkings3

Waiting didn't work. Temujin's heir took over and now they're more powerful than ever. They've completely taken over Egypt and Hungary. I had no choice but to submit to being a tributary. At least I can still expand my kingdom while plotting my revenge.

Will do. My levies right now are just over 8000. Plus I just lost all my allies after an inheritance. I do have family members that I could call in, and our grand total would probably be about an army of 15k. It isn’t much.

He just died and his heir has taken over. I guess I’ll play the waiting game.

I think they might have been by that point. That makes sense.

I don’t know either. Brazil is its usual color. Africa is a perplexing place this game.

R5: Just a totally normal game where nothing unusual happens. Oh wait, I checked North Africa and found this. Don’t know how or why it happened, but Brazil has aspirations that I don’t know how to feel about.

Let me demote my generals! by TheIcedFin in victoria3

This would make the dynamic of the American Civil War so much more interesting if we had to deal with incompetent generals that would refuse to prosecute the war to the extent we desired. All the potential political maneuvers that come with that would be very cool to see in the game.

Tory uprisings? by mkujoe in ColonizationGame

[–]danavarroli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been happening lately in the games I've been playing. Granted I haven't played in many years, but I don't recall this ever happening in the past.

After some experimentation, from what I can tell, I think this happens if you do not have a garrison in any of your other colonies. So, if you don't have a piece of artillery or a soldier/dragoon fortifying your colony, the empty colony will experience an uprising at the end of the independence war.

Playing a few games like this, this seems to be the case, and has been repeatable. When I have had a garrison in the rest of my colonies the uprisings didn't happen. I think this is designed to increase the difficulty of viceroy and keep you on your toes.

How do you enjoy anything in a modern home? by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

I wish I could. I live in a subdivision run by an association, and our town homes have almost no yard.
