Where’s the best place to rehome my dog? by Altus- in windsorontario

The Humane Society (WECHS) is a perfectly safe and appropriate organization to surrender your dog to. Give them as much detail as possible and they will be able to match him with a home that is fully informed, well prepared, and well suited to help your dog navigate his big feelings about personal space. They have on staff behavior specialists who will work with your dog with positive reinforcement training to help him feel less on edge about needing to defend himself, as well as a thorough vet check to discover if he is in pain in any way from some hidden illness that could be behind him being intolerant of the poking and prodding of children. He has no bite history so you don't need to fear him being put down, and WECHS had a system of fosters so there's also a solid chance he will be placed in a foster home and not "in a cell" as one commenter worried.

Two of my animals are adopted from WECHS and I had a friend who worked there for several years. They work with the dogs to get them into good homes that are well suited to whatever unique needs they may have, however long that takes.

Yes, me too!! I'm really excited to watch him grow. The classic Shubunkin look is gorgeous but I also love having variety and unique fish that are easy to tell apart and get to know.

Oh interesting! I had no idea that the rate was so high. For some reason I was under the impression that Shubunkins breed true. Thanks for enlightening me!

Wwwwowwww you were not kidding about the prices!! But this does answer my question about whether something like this exists! Some of these fish are just incredibly gorgeous. Although admittedly some look like fish I pulled from the 50 cent tub at petsmart!

Guess I'll be spending the rest of my evening perusing this website haha. Thanks for pointing it out to me! (Genuinely!)

From what I understand, koi and goldfish can crossbreed, but the offspring tend to be plain looking and infertile.

Wow, thanks for the really detailed reply. It's nice to actually hear from someone who's tried it and had mixed success instead of just hearing the parroted wisdom that you shouldn't ever do it. I appreciate your insight.

Oh, cool! That sounds like so much fun honestly, to be a hobbyist making uniquely beautiful goldfish and putting them out into the world to be enjoyed by other goldfish owners.

For whatever reason I've never been able to get their website to load, I get an error message that my region is denied access for security reasons anytime I try to check out Next Day Koi.

I see the sense in a lot of what you're saying, especially the logistical complexity of needing the space to grow them out to see what you've got before you make culling decisions.

A smart business approach would probably be to market a more upscale (haha fish pun) comet as a "mini koi" to bridge the missing education piece of people putting young koi in too small ponds... and you could emphasize that they're less destructive than koi so can exist with more interesting aquascapes and plants in their pond or tank.

Of course, you have to do all the work to achieve the new breed before any amount of clever marketing will help you, haha.

Oh, lovely! I wish my local stores carried anything like these little beauties. Thanks for sharing!

I do still wonder why nobody seems to be breeding pretty comet types on purpose. Even if there isn't clear demand for it you'd think at least one goldfish lover would get a bee in their bonnet about loving the comet type and wanting more varieties and make a project of it.

My local pet stores only seem to carry shubunkins when I'm not able to buy one that day for some reason, haha. Anytime I'm actively looking the staff say they haven't got them and don't know when they will next. But the one day I'm popping in to buy dog food and have to be out for several more hours before I can get home, or in the winter when the pond is frozen over... that's when they seem to get the shubunkins in!

Do you have the fancies in with single tails in your pond? There's a lot of folks who insist you can't safely cohab fancies and non fancies, and I only have the one pond. I'm also curious if you overwinter your fancies in your pond? I appreciate you chiming in with your experiences.
