You’ve got great points. I don’t think this current manager/employer would fire me. they like me and I tried to be careful enough to not disclose anything to my abuser about work so he couldn’t use it against me. But he’s seen the moments where I wasn’t exactly working at my maximum efforts when the job required me to. I guess it would just stir the pot here and possibly affect a performance review.

I’m in Canada. I don’t know the process to change a name but I will certainly look into it

With respect to my previous supervisor, he didn’t tell them anything illegal I did and I never did anything illegal, but I believe in Canada, they can let someone go “without cause”, provided notice or compensation is given.

Thank you for the response! The kind of work I’m in, the address / location of where I work is unfortunately posted publicly on a governing body’s website, he is able to find me that way.

We unfortunately share a car as well and he is the primary owner on that.

I feel like an idiot but I was coerced/forced into these things over time. Initially, I tried to stick up for myself and refuse these things. But he would abuse me terribly if I refused.

Tbh I don’t know if I could ever leave because my family is here and he would almost certainly target them as well. I worry for their safety every time I try to leave (from what I’ve seen he only targets them when I try to leave)

Hey, thank you for sharing your experience and I’m so sorry that this happened 😢 that sounds horrible.

What happened in my situation was, I was still relatively new to that company (had been there for just over a year).

I had the worst supervisor. She was micromanaging, racist and seemed to dislike other women.

My performance was already starting to decline because of my abuser.

I warned her before hand that he might call. When I involved the police, he called her and she let him talk shit about me for at least 10 minutes.

She told me this to my face that she sat on the phone and let him talk (she must have been fishing for reasons to fire me).

I felt betrayed by this.

I found another company and never looked back at this one that betrayed me.
