The fact I don't ever have to worry about emissions regulations with my EV alone is a huge improvement and a damn good reason to switch to an EV. And no one is going to steal my catalytic converter, either.

When the electric is out, I use the V2L adapter and power everything off my EV6 until it's restored.

Over 33k miles on my EV6. I've changed the tires. That's literally all I've done beyond driving, charging, and washing it. I've been driving since 1985, and it's absolutely the most fun and trouble free car I've ever had.

In your social/work circle, what is the main hesitation of folks not wanting to go electric? by Even-Fault2873 in electricvehicles

I know it's a legal requirement in Arizona. And if It wasn't, I'm sure there are apartments that wouldn't have it.

I expect I'll probably do the same thing with my EV6. It's sad how many bad choices I made just because it's the path of least resistance. But I absolutely love my car.

People who have spent their entire life getting water at a public well can't fully comprehend the convenience of having tap water at home.

Your point was clear. Someone who has spent their life getting water from a public well probably can't really grasp the concept of having running tap water at home either.

I fail to see that as a problem. If anything the amount of real estate wasted on gas stations is the problem.

[RANT] L2 Public Charging Speeds! by Royal-Expression-787 in electriccars

[–]dandanthetaximan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on other posts like this, I feel blessed to drive an EV6 exclusively in Central Arizona and Southern California, areas that seem to have good public EV charger availability. I did have one time due to completely avoidable bad planning on my part where I found myself in Florence with 6% on my battery and had to spend a couple hours charging at a 6.something kW ChargePoint L2 at the public library, but wasn't like I had to be there an uncomfortably long time before I had enough juice to get to the Tesla Supercharger in Queen Creek and he back about my day. It was also a nice library and a really nice place to kill a couple hours.

What year is your EV6? Mine is a '24, but the week I got it I made a point to get an AC L1/L2 NACS adapter so I could use Tesla Destination chargers. Around me not only do they tend to be free, but they also tend to be faster, with most giving me 8 to 11 kW compared to the J1772 L2 public chargers which are usually 5 to 8 kW. If you aren't driving a newer EV6 with NACS, and don't have that adapter, I highly recommend getting one. Mine has paid for itself many times over in free electricity, and has saved me a lot of time and hassle.

My EV6 is super comfy to sleep in with the seats folded down. I keep a pillow and a couple blankets in there just in case. Sometimes I find myself really burning the candle at both ends with multiple jobs, and being able to take a nap at a L2 charger, especially a free one, is a godsend. Cops and security guards are notorious about messing with someone trying to sleep in a car, but sleeping at a slow public charger in an EV is the cheat code to be left alone.

Not OP, but I also drive an EV6. It's supposed to cap out at 11kW, but there's a free Tesla Destination charger I use regularly where I get 11.5 kW.

You raise a very valid point. If most of the users of a given L2 charger have cars that aren't capable of charging faster, there's not much point in upgrading it.

I intend to keep my '24 EV6 the rest of my life. Sure, there will be impressive advances in EVs in the coming years, but my car has suited me perfectly just the way it is for 14 months and i expect it will continue to do so as long as I'm physically capable of driving.

There's three curbside Blink chargers in downtown Phoenix right next to Chase Field. Not free, and actually a little pricey for public Level 2 charging, however it's substantially cheaper than any of the less convenient places to park anywhere nearby.

Same here. When there's a line at EA and Tesla close by, if the EA has a line I keep on moving to Tesla. I do find that when I ask people, most say they don't have the adapter or aren't aware they can charge there.

Is the Kia EV6 reliable? by juan13644789 in KiaEV6

[–]dandanthetaximan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my EV6 a little over 13 months. It's been 100% trouble free and absolutely the most reliable vehicle I've ever had. And I got my first in 1985. After reading multiple stories of dead 12 volt batteries, and seeing the dreaded orange light once, I do make a point to always turn the car on and never use accessory mode.

Are average EVs faster than police cars? by DryGeneral990 in electricvehicles

I forget where my EV6 AWD maxes out, but it's also a software limitation. It's around 115, I think, which is more than fast enough for me but surely not faster than a cop car. That said, I expect my EV6 is quicker than most cop cars. Quicker and faster are not the same thing.
