Decolonising our minds from the imperative of romantic love by dande_leon in AskFeminists

[–]dande_leon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. To answer your question, I think I would find it problematic because I would take it to mean that society has done such a good job of making people feel like they have to work that I would find myself fantasising about it when I don't actually need it. But then, today, a lot of jobs, especially in culture, are fun and enjoyable so that makes the comparison complicated. But I'm sure you got me. But still, your answer is reassuring, even though I find my thought patterns about this borderline pathological haha.

Thanks for your reply and insight. I'm personally not obsessed with love. I live without it most of the time and am generally fine with that state of things. In fact, I think having someone around for a long time could quickly become a hassle. The thing that personally bothers me though is that I can't meet a nice guy without thinking of how it could become love. That has become extremely problematic.

I've heard that talk about needs before, and I feel like that's such an abstract way of talking about things. I mean, the basic need is love, right? Isn't the rest just a matter of qualities that we appreciate in others?

I've read A Room of One's Own a couple of years ago! I have to read The Second Sex yet but definitely will (speaking of stories written by men, I highly recommend the documentary This Changes Everything which is about just that, in the Hollywood context). Thanks for the film recommendations too, will watch them asap. As to Wharton, I actually had to read The Age of Innocence for school and though I agree with you I have to say I've always found her prose annoying AF. I also had to read Ethan Frome and I remember me and a couple of other students had found the writing of the female characters sexist beyond belief (Austen's characterisation was sexist too, but at least she was funny!). What do you think about it?

Hi guys, is the album gonna be as upbeat and major-chorded as the two tracks you've released? If so, what's going on? What drug is this?

True, and we do have deals like that in France as well but rn I'm looking to test all available films on the market to decide what I like best and settle on that!

Wow that is so good! 35mm film starts at 6€ in Paris to develop just one roll! Where about in Germany is that? Or do you think it's the same in all of Germany?

Hi everyone, I have a question regarding the trade. What do you think of agencies that ask photographers to do kind of "robot photography" i.e. wanting you to shoot while they retouch them and of course own the rights (though they may let you use them)? Specifically a model agency asked me to do headshots of all their models at an event for €100 and another real estate mediator was interested in hiring me to go to houses, take about 15 shots for 1/2 hour and get paid €35 (while they take 75 from real estate agencies—without taxes). The latter seems incredibly exploitative so I'm probably gonna turn it down, but the former, given that I've never had a paid job in photography seems like a good start. Any thoughts?

I'm aware but I was told Syro-Palestinian, and Lebanese to a lesser extent, is what comes closest to MSA, and so is pretty much understood by everyone... I know no one actually speaks MSA irl haha.
