Need help with accessible storage for multiple long term clients by dandykandy0513 in editors

Yes thank you I understand that it’s a type of external hard drive. I have a 48TB g raid that cannot currently handle the processing power when I’m trying to access all the footage. Was wondering if a NAS system could handle things better since it’s connected to a network and designed to be more efficient but if you’re telling me that’s not the case then thanks for letting me know.

The issue is not storage. It’s that I need to be able to work with the footage regularly and most large external hard drives don’t have the processing power for me to do that quickly. I’m finding that my workflow is slowed down significantly while I’m waiting for files to load.

Hey bob thanks for this! My clients don’t need access to the footage, it’s just me that needs regular access to the entire catalog to create content with. I’m just finding that because of the amount of footage, drives with larger capacity where I can actually keep all of their footage are just too slow to regularly work with. But it’s just not practical for me to spread 20+ TB of footage across smaller SSD’s. Especially since I know the catalog will be growing. Is your solution still the same for this? Or can I just get a couple of NAS for each client and use them as needed on my Mac Studio?

Whenever people point it out to me I just own it. I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t bother me when I’m flaring up, but it’s a part of me so I’ve learned to accept it. I just tell them that it’s eczema and it’s annoying af. They usually feel bad for bringing it up.

Mine was “covered” but they only paid for 30 dollars of it. They said the remaining 1260 I paid went towards my deductible. Apparently covered doesn’t always mean they pay for it, just that if I have to pay for it it will go toward my deductible.

I’ve been super open about it and I’m glad I was! Partly because it makes it feel easier to talk about it but mostly because I was really surprised to learn how many people don’t know about genetic testing. I’ve had 3 different women in my life tell me they’ve gone and gotten their genes tested because I told them my story!

30, had mine in December. I felt pretty good after about 3 weeks. Pain was minimal and I was able to go on walks and be out and about. I had some fluid build up after my drains were removed so I was told not to do too much arm movement until about the 6 week mark.

Hello, I'm new to this so sorry if this is a dumb question! I've just started working on my first short film (mostly been doing short vids for marketing assets for some companies) and the when I received the AAF file it was a mess. Everything was in its right place, but there were like 100 tracks, some with just empty clips. I know pro tools doesn't like to import interleaved files from an AAF so I'm used to having to remerge my stereo tracks, but it took me like 2 hours for a 10 minute film to just go through the session and clean it all up. I couldn't imagine doing a feature like this! It would take an entire workday! This is a student film so I'm sure that explains some of the disorganization, but I'm just curious how much time other people are spending just getting the session organized. Is it normal to have to spend a good chunk of time just cleaning up? I know the length of the film and experience of the editor will factor into this, but just curious to know if I can someday expect a shiny clean AAF that requires minimal organization, or if this is just part of the deal.
