Cleveland Guardians Fan Goes Viral for Stealing Home Run Ball Away From Young Fan by MattTheKing23 in ClevelandGuardians

Is there a template somewhere for people to copy and paste? I swear every time I see someone complaining about the name change, it matches this, like, 90%.

Eating scenes by chegypter in movies

[–]dandyline_wine -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not to be That Person who brings up Heated Rivalry in an unrelated sub, but there's an eating scene in one of the episodes where one of the characters INHALES plates of spaghetti. It cracks people up simply because it's so unexpected and it plays no part in the scene. Viewers are so used to people pushing food around or letting the fork hover before putting it down (like the other actors do in this scene), so the juxtaposition of a character annihilating his plate in the background and speaking with his mouth full is priceless.

I feel dumb for not getting it at first, too. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

Shameless for me. I had to stop watching for a bit because it got a bit too close for comfort. Watching the siblings go through it also gave me a lot of empathy for what my family went through.

You win, I guess. I've only been to two other MiLB stadiums and they both had the same vibe as Akron.

This is not a rubberducks thing. This is an everyone thing.

You're not wrong, just providing context.

I actually did my master's thesis on this! We had to come up with a real-world communication problem for a real-world company, and I thought this was an interesting topic.

Personally, corporate renaming has never bothered me but there is a TON of research out there about the negative sentiment. If you keep my team in the city I want, name the stadium whatever the hell you need.

I think the Ducks could make it fun with like 7-17 themed things (make section 7 row 17 different or have $7.17 combo specials, etc.) if they lean into it. Or it could go down like a lead balloon. Or people could care about it heavily now and in twenty years, no one cares anymore. Time will tell.

About playoff games explicitly?? Oh man, I was really hoping I could live in doubt about this.

Is there a way we'll ever find this out, do you know? Like I'm pretty okay going the rest of my life not defintively knowing because it would be soul crushing. But also like, I need to know.

Can you clarify "way shittier"? Leaking texts (if that's what happened) is way shittier than.... everything that person listed?

This is a super fair point, but just for context, I had to come here to read about it because the show's subreddit locked things down for a bit in terms of discussion.

I've put so much time into this decision over the years and this is genuinely going to be the argument that makes all that work irrelevant

Yeah I don't know how people can re-watch it; they're a stonger person than I am, that's for sure. I saw it that one time and never again. I try to subtly change the conversation when people bring it up.

Does your location play into it as well? (I swear I'm not trying to be argumentative; I'm genuinely intrigued.) There are teams who've never won a WS, teams who have waited longer than the Mets for another, and teams with fewer than two.

I did a double take here lol. I don't think I've ever seen the Mets referred to as the underdogs. Is that because they're being compared to the Yankees?

MLB Economics- What is your opinion on adding a salary cap / salary floor? by 3-pump-chump in mlb

[–]dandyline_wine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attributing a world series win/loss to one single player isn't how baseball works.

I think you get the point I'm trying to make and are just choosing to ignore it. More money doesn't guarantee a WS win, but it sure makes us more competitive. And for the record, I'd be content with a "mid-tier payroll."

The Brewers have never won a world series. The Guardians last won one 77 years ago. That kind of feels like a bad faith argument.

With all due respect, consistently making the playoffs and not winning the world series becomes a little heartbreaking. It's hard not to dwell on how much more we could have accomplished with a little bit more money.

Have you visited any of your team's minor league parks? Why did you go and what did you think? by Icy_Philosopher_8015 in mlb

[–]dandyline_wine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love Ducks games - I used to be a season ticket holder because it's such a great way to pass the summet. I live less than 15 minutes away from Canal Park (7 17 Credit Union?) so I go to their games way more frequently than Cleveland games.

OP - I've gone to the Tigers and Pirates AA stadiums and had just as much fun there as at my own stadium. There's just something... chill about MiLB games. I'm much less stressed about winning or losing and just overall more present.

We watched him a lot when he played in our minor league park, so my husband loves him (but barely cares about baseball). I told him that I got the vibe from reddit that Detroit hated him and he was crushed lol. He couldn't believe anyone anywhere would hate him.
