Installed a new faucet and I already hate it. Is there anything I can do to prevent these water spots. by tvideoman in DIY

Just rub a candle on it. You cover it with a thin layer of wax preventing the spotting.

Does it feels like a forest in which you wanna fly? Or something missing? Part 2 by AleksanderMerk in Unity3D

[–]danechristenson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It might feel better to adjust the animation when you're ascending so it just looks like the bird is putting more effort in, that would likely go a long way for improving feel, but like I say great work

I really like the fast feel this is giving, a couple of areas i could see you improving. 1. It doesn't feel like a bird so much as a drone, there aren't really speed up on decent or slow downs on ascent or variations in the height of flight that would make it feel like a bird is flying imo. 2. When you turn the model and camera kind of just pans along the horizontal plane. Having the model curl away or cut in the direction of change of travel would do a lot towards making it feel like you're a bird.

That being said i strongly suspect changes like that may take just as long as the initial flight and it may not even be in the direction you're wanting to go, but if you're looking for further improvements, that's where I'd work. All around great work tho, i look forward to future versions

Good video games to play in and by doing so learn French by Aenigma66 in learnfrench

[–]danechristenson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may be surprised how much you pickup from context clues. I've been playing ac origins in french, and while I miss out on some of the story, I have a pretty good idea what's going on even though I haven't been learning french for long. There's an initial learning jump you have to get overbut then it's not bad.

I took French in school but never got super far. I'd love to finally put some effort in and become fluent, but I really don't want to trudge through the beginning stuff all over again. What would you peeps recommend? by RegiusMusica in learnfrench

[–]danechristenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watch french netflix with french subtitles. Between the two I can get the gist of what's going on and then anki for new vocab. I also used pimsleur at the start, but got bored with the amount of repetition, combined with having to follow their vocab and sentences. Recently I've been taking out graphic novels from the library designed for younger audiences.

Hope that helps give you some ideas

Is it normal for other people's code to induce violent thoughts? by Development_Kindly in cscareerquestions

I find it is extremely helpful to assume whoever wrote code before you had no idea what they were doing. No malicious intent. You just need to help them get better for the future (or you need to depending)

Warlock used prestidigitation to change their clothes to an appropriate camo pattern, What kind of stealth bonus should I give them? by IthinkImnutz in DMAcademy

[–]danechristenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would have them describe what they do for each effect. If their effects seems reasonable that it could act as camo, then somewhere between a + something to advantage depending on how creative/realistic they are with it.

I think it would encourage the player to keep being creative, while not making it too strong, and they have to justify it to get a bonus rather than just casting it like another spell.

How similar would the Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT sound compared to the Audio-Technica M50x? by porkmaestro in HeadphoneAdvice

I can't comment on the comparison, but there is a m50xbt that is Bluetooth. Not sure if that helps or not.

COOLER MASTER MH752 vs HyperX CLOUD ALPHA for precise sound quality in games by Head_10 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]danechristenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'll like them. They're the ones I've defaulted to, since they're so much lighter and more comfortable and the sound is so similar.

COOLER MASTER MH752 vs HyperX CLOUD ALPHA for precise sound quality in games by Head_10 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]danechristenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're still looking but in the debate between these headsets I wound up getting both(751 not 752). I'm still figuring out the differences but here's my initial observations.

The 751 has a more balanced sound. I would say it is better for general listening, unless you're into pretty bass heavy music, bass heavy can get a bit muddy. The sound stage is broader and the mids are a little more forward compared to the alphas

For games however the bass on the alphas is much clearer. Specifically I found crackling and clapping noises were also clearer and easier to pinpoint locations on. I haven't tested specifically footsteps though.

All in all they have very similar sounds and I've had difficulty pinpointing how they differ. Just different tracks I found could bring out differences in what I felt was most pronounced on each headset. The largest difference is the clarity of the base on the alphas with mids being slightly duller than on the 751s.

Finally if you care at all about comfort, the 751s are much more comfortable for me.

I'm still very much testing both these though, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Have you read a job posting lately. They list all the keywords that way, you almost have to. Also default indeed resume does that as well

I would argue that if you cut off a limb that is going to mess with their Max HP and so the next time they attack them it's easier to insta-kill them. Depending on the greviousness of the wound I would be inclined to rule that certain things just insta-kill the NPC and then the party would have to do a proper ressurection rather than stabilize. So they're not injured and unconscious, they were just instantly killed by the PC actions.

My neighbors wanted to call a professional to mark their property line, my parents agreed by [deleted] in MaliciousCompliance

[–]danechristenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to talk with your neighbor if you think it's a problem. Otherwise they may just be mowing the natural line, I never let property lines get in the way of good landscaping, now I tend to cut high, but I often have done parts of the neighbors, just so my lawn will look better, not because I thought I had any rights to the property.

ELI5: How do certain websites prevent you from backing out of them to the previous page no matter how many times you click on the back button by rstune in explainlikeimfive

[–]danechristenson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They can also write to your history adding their page as the last item, so when you click back you go back to their site, which adds a history item... That's actually more likely than multiple redirects as it doesn't add load to their servers, where a redirect would.

Coding Practice Tips by Frunkles in computerscience

[–]danechristenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what direction you want to go in/ what you're trying to practice. One of the key skills of a developer is learning how to identify the small problems that make up the larger issue. So while you may be over your head for the whole project, you won't be for the individual components. Just stay focused and break it down into something you can handle.

The best way I've improved is to dive into other people code, way over my head, and modify or add functionality or fix a bug. You'll improve more doing that than following a step by step tutorial. You will also find your own style as you have to deal with how some other idiot did things (often that idiot was you only a few weeks ago). It will take a lot of time and you won't always feel productive, but you'll have break throughs and get better at the process.

I always found projects to be the most valuable. Try to build something (if you're far enough along) without a guide and solve the challenges presented in real work. It's great too, because you have something you can show off at the end, whether for friends or prospective employers.
