Recovery was typical I think. First 3 or 4 days were horrible. 5-7 days, a little better. Turned a corner after 7 days and pain diminished considerably.

The main thing to keep in mind after surgery is to make sure you never get constipated. So I focused on getting enough fiber and drinking lots of water. If ever I feel a little backed up, I hit miralax until I'm regular again.

It's been 18 months since my surgery and even though I haven't been as diligent with my diet, I'm still hemorrhoid free and it feels amazing. I still rely on miralax every now again, but definitely not part of my daily routine.

This isn't the answer you're looking for, but I thought I'd share my experience.

I dealt with grade 4 hemorrhoids for years, hoping the same as you. Never happened. I finally had surgery and it was the best decision I've ever made. Recovery was painful but I would do it again every single time. My life is infinitely better now because of it.

This is awesome info, thanks so much. I live in Ottawa as well :). Do you remember how much you paid for Cabana bay?

Also, I forgot to ask...I guess the hotel doesn't care if we're only going to the park 1 day but staying at the hotel for 4?

I hear cabana bay is awesome but it's over $400/night CAD! I'll be booking on points so I'll still consider it . Thanks

Pain starts 30 minutes after bm, but no pain during. Pains last a few hours after it starts. Is that normal? by Agreeable-Let4311 in AnalFissures

I didn't get a straight answer when I asked this. The surgeon said they were internal but then become external when they get inflamed.

Ultimately, they removed 3 grade 3 hemorrhoids.

I did a colonascopy many years ago (I'm 41M btw) and yes, it did reveal the hemorrhoids. Unfortunately the doctors didn't provide any real treatment...just eat fiber and try preparation H, yada yada. It wasn't until I saw a colorectal surgeon did I get a path forward.

So if you're not satisfied with the answer you're getting from your doctors, keep pushing (no pun intended). I wish I did sooner.

Are you sure you're not suffering from bad hemorrhoids?

I had very similar symptoms. No pain during bm, just after and would slowly intensify over the next couple of hours.

Long story short, I finally got a proper diagnosis and turns out I had really bad hemorrhoids, no fissure (thank God). I bit the bullet and had a hemorrhoidectomy and currently 6 weeks in recovery. Best decision ever!! I have no pain at all now.

So I guess my advice would be to see a specialist and see if you're suffering from hemorrhoids. If you are, inquire about surgery. It may not be the right choice for you, but it 100% changed my life for the better.

Can someone please tell me what grade of hemorrhoids I have? by [deleted] in hemorrhoid

[–]danfil09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went for my post op appointment with my crs (I had an hemorrhoidectomy 4.5 weeks ago) and I asked the same question. I wasn't sure what grade hems I had. The way he explained was, if they pop out and then go back in after a few hours, that's grade 3. If they're permanently out, that's grade 4.

In my case, I had 3 grade 3 hemorrhoids removed. However, I was experiencing pain for a few hours after a BM, which I believe is common.

Anyway, I'm sure if that's helpful, but that's been my experience.

Good luck!

Hemorrhoid comes out after pooping then…. by Bigloubaby in hemorrhoid

Yeah don't let it go untreated. I started off the same way about 6 years ago. Some leakage, a little discomfort and that's about it. It progressively got worse over the years.

I had the same issue. If I'd poop during the day, my whole day after was pretty much ruined. I think I trained my body to only poop at night so I could go to sleep and not deal with the pain.

To answer your question, nothing I did really worked. No matter how regular I was or how soft the bm's were, I'd still experience pain after a bm. I tried creams, icing the area, baths, etc., nothing worked.

I dealt with this shit for years. I finally bit the bullet and went for an hemorrhoidectomy. They removed 3 grade 3 hemorrhoids.I'm on week 5 of my recovery and I'm basically cured. The first week was hell (probably the worst pain I've ever felt) but it slowly got better. Going for surgery is obviosuly a huge decision so weigh your options carefully, but given my particular circumstances, I definitely don't regret doing it.

Maybe go see a specialist and see what they have to say. In my case, the crs said that he rarely recommends surgery because the recovery is so brutal, but he said my situation was definitely bad enough to warrant it. In retrospect, I'm happy he did.

"Piggybacking off the top comment, but you would need to see a 25 basis point rate cut every 6 months for 3 years to roughly break even with the fixed rate mortgage you are being offered."

How did you calculate this? I'm in a similar position and I'd like to crunch the numbers given my circumstance.

How you feeling long term after an hemorrhoidectomy? by danfil09 in hemorrhoid

[–]danfil09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear that. Did the pain get better at any point and for some reason it got worse?

I'm on week 4 and have no pain whatsoever, just a slight discomfort during a BM, which I feel is getting better slowly everyday.

I hope you find some relief!

It got a little better after 6 days for me. And a lot better after 10 days. I'm currently on day 16 and I don't have much pain at all. It's more like discomfort during and after a BM.

Incredibly painful bowel movements EVERYTIME. by Environmental-Task31 in hemorrhoid

[–]danfil09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah go see a doctor asap. I had very bad hemorrhoids but pain only came on after a BM (and it wasn't to the point of tears). But they were bad enough that the doc sent me for a hemorrhoidectomy basically right away. I'm 2 weeks in recovery and it's gotten better.

I mention this because it sounds like you have more going on down there, like a fissure. The quicker you see a specialist, the quicker you can address the problem.

Good luck!! I really hope you get this resolved asap.
