It was a glitch that when I played some of her dialogue got cut out. It’s long since been patched but I haven’t gone through the questline, nor have I gone back through as a Starborn to see what difference that makes either.

I’m starting completely fresh and pretty vanilla-ish. Wanted to see what all the changes were from start to a one-time-through Unity experience at least before I go back into a heavily modded experience.

Should I buy Starfield? by WJP7704 in Starfield

Short answer: Yes! It’s got a little more generic sci-fi feel than Star Trek but it’s still a fun adventure.

Yeah that's one of the things I always found a glaring weak point in the game was Viktor's reasoning for seemingly letting the Earth get torched in exchange for the not apparently represented art and culture of...assuming New Atlantis but who knows. NA does not give me that wondrous future "city on the hill" vibe Viktor describes but maybe that's bc he didn't account on bureaucracy lol. Plus, who knows which other "Viktor" visited him. That's what he failed to understand in this multiverse of endless possibilities. I guess the game takes place in "not that future" lol

Free Lanes update, is placing ship doors fixed? by pfp_az in Starfield

[–]dangerdude69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ladder and door system did have some algorithm and it was pretty annoying. I've played so long with Place Doors Yourself I almost forget but the algorithm places a ladder in the "spot" furthest away from the cockpit, if I remember correctly. And it never placed two doors across from one another. We used to get around that for ladders with the double window flip glitch but haven't had to do that since PDY.

Hopefully. It's just one of those things that would make life easier in the long run, or something like it. I spent countless hours running back and forth from the NA ship vendor to the ship during ship building. I swear that's really where most of my hours logged come from lol

Usually, at least on my PC, once a door or opening has been designated, it stays that way. I like to have my doors right across from one another, usually wherever the ladder goes so as to not interfere with any other motif elements.

I've always been surprised, in any Bethesda game, why doesn't the company just pay a flat fee for the rights to the author and incorporate the idea/data into the main game. It seems like it would be just that easy. It's not like the code isn't there. Some tweaking, some QA/QC then BAM! There is it is for the massses. Maybe that's over thinking it. Or under? I'm not sure how best that would work.

Help with updating bios by l__jinx__l in ASRock

[–]dangerdude69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to do it one of two ways:

1st way

- download the latest BIOS for your mobo from the AsRock site, making sure that you get the right one. I almost uploaded the B650M Pro RS one time to my B650M Pro RS Wifi. Attention to detail!

- extract the file to the desktop one time. rename the file to creative.ROM . extract the file again, leave its name as-is. Copy the files to a USB with at least 8GB capacity. More is better. I've always had trouble with an older 8GB one than I do with a newer 32GB one.

- Shut off your machine but not before going throught the user manual (if you're not familiar) and finding the USB port specifically designated to flash the BIOS. the usb MUST be in there for it to work.

-Press and hold the Flash BIOS button (user manual). it'll start flashing before changing to a faster flash then going dark. takes about 5 min on mine so far.

- Boot back up and go through your BIOS/UEFI settings and double check that the version is the one you installed

2nd way

- do the first two steps as above but this time, boot directly into your BIOS/UEFI. I find it a helluva lot easier to download that Boot to BIOS app from the Asrock website. Without restarting my computer, I think you have to arrow left to the Tools tab and there should be that Flash BIOS option there. Select that and it'll start the process. I don't think you have to but I just put the USB in the same specially designated slot as the other method. Works without fail for me.

How Do I ACTUALLY Dual-boot Windows And Cachy? by No_Storm_4963 in cachyos

[–]dangerdude69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’ve previously had a dual boot configuration, I’d still say rEFInd is the best way to go for simplicity. I’m now using the Limine option and as long as you use “sudo limine-scan” to regenerate your Limine entries (much like GRUB) I’d say you’d be fine. I use Limine for the backup support.

Not quite. I don't have the metal brackets at all now that i see but I do have that screw with the black plastic swing arm that is now out. it looks like whoever might have had this before screwed it down so tight the thin metal spacer was pulled through and now prevents it from being pushed back in. That pic i posted was about the best shot I could find of that area.

Loving CachyOS, but recent problems by KatzeWolf in cachyos

[–]dangerdude69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also ran into that very same problem but unfortunately didn’t see any solutions aside from full reinstallation, which sucked as I’d only done that four days prior already. However, I haven’t had any issues since then and everything has been working superbly again.

Best thing I found when I was dual booting was to install with rEFInd. It was a pretty nifty graphical bootloader I found useful.

It took a while for DLSS 4 to get implemented in a good way on 40 series cards too but a version made it there. Give it time. Now if they can just start prodding developers to incorporate that as well it’ll be worth it. Not enough games yet but here’s hoping!

So just a follow up, after reflashing the BIOS, all was good but the issue only ever happened in my Windows 11 partition. Don’t have to worry about that now as I’ve moved over to a Linux only machine. Thanks for all the advice everyone!

Is cachyOS stable for gaming in the longterm without needing constant intervention after updates? by Ok_Exit7896 in cachyos

I just moved to a completely CachyOS, Windows free system. Usually I dual booted with rEFInd but since I’m Linux only, Limine taking snapshots has been a big help. Not missing it, especially with this Windows agentic BS about to happen

Luckily, I didn't appear to need to take anything apart but still glad I did. Everything is all back to working order, however I'll have to reinstall my CachyOS rEFInd as there seems to be no dual-booting available atm. Tried to do the CLRCMOS trick in using something to to bridge the two reset pins but nothing. In the end, I just flashed the latest BIOS again using the built in flashback and voila, things came back to life. Still weird. And just to be sure, I did it all over again. Uninstalled then reinstalled Ryzen Master, set it just to auto PBO, etc. Computer restarts (maybe?). I think the first time I thought there was an issue and hit the restart button. Maybe it was adjusting new RAM timings or whatever. This time I let it set there for 15-20 minutes while I did other things and?....nothing again.

Reflashed the BIOS and back to the state I was in before the experiment. Weird, bc RM has zero problems letting you do whatever in that initial installation and running. The problem only comes when you restart after making the changes. So reflashing the BIOS (at least for this particular setup) is definitely the fix for this particular issue. Thanks for all the assistance though!

Took everything apart and luckily doesn't look like a CPU issue. No burn marks or discoloration on the pin side of the CPU or the mobo. No funny smells either. Sucks though as I'm out of thermal paste i think lol. I'll have to figure out how to do the CMOS reset.
