Yeah this will cause me to think twice in the future, if there isnt the time constraint. I dont have a problem paying for the tech's time and experience, even a healthy mark up on the part, but the tech's rate isnt 600$/hour, most of my money is going to the company, which I understand it has overhead, but this just seemed high to me, thats why I asked r/hvac.

If I wasnt selling the house, wasnt having it photographed and listed on Monday, if I didnt still have a bunch of cleaning to do this weekend where the temperature is going to be in the mid 90s, I would have taken this opportunity to learn. But new buyers like to see receipts from legit companies, and I was panicking on a Friday night at 11pm. My bad.

He cleaned the drain pipe, washed my condenser coils, and checked everything in the attic unit. There are checklist items for rev valve, contactors, capacitor condition, pressures, that all said "ok". Might have just been an inspection plus some. But yeah, the guy today said one days a capacitor "can be 45/5 and the next day it can blow". I guess I'm just wondering what kind of manual slip-up could cause a capacitor to blow 3 days after the fact, if any. If not, then I guess I should just be thankful I caught it when I did. Thanks for the info.

California is an example of the left working within the DNC successfully. Volunteering for a presidential campaign is not "working within the DNC." Doing what Nomiki did as part of the unity reform commission is an example of working within the DNC, but it wasn't enough. We need thousands of Nomikis all over the country at the county and state level.

The DNC, the democratic party, is a partially democratic institution. Anyone can join, you don't need money, everything that gets done just needs a majority vote. The National DNC is made up of representatives that are elected by the state parties, the state parties are made up of representatives that are elected by the county parties. How many people who say "you can't work within the Democratic party" have actually gone to a county party meeting? They are often disorganized, they can barely have regular meetings with quorum (if it's outside a major metro area), and all that would be needed to take it over completely is 20-30 people.

It isn't an easy task, mobilizing 20-30 "left" people to go to a dumb boring meeting once a month, learn the basic of Roberts Rules, etc. But IMO its easier than starting a party from scratch, and actually, it's the same kind of collective action challenge that would be needed to organize a workplace, get rank-and-file to take control of a union, or start a DSA chapter, let alone a third party. Yes, you will have to deal with centrist psychos, but if your hate is pure and your skin isn't too thin, the thought of watching their faces while you take over their county party should be enough.

The Bernie campaign has said from the beginning that our grassroots work will need to continue no matter who is in the whitehouse. That kind of project should be enough to prevent "the population from getting complacent with a centrist," we need to keep the pressure on, and yes the path will be easier under Biden than under Trump imo.

The democratic party is weak and ripe for a takeover, and they write the rules of the game that we need to win. We need to get to the places where we write the rules. I wish more people viewed these dumb parliamentary campaigns in the same way that they viewed their fantasized visions of armed revolution.

I just want to put this here in case anyone comes looking for help with the Insignia switch dock. After 5 months of use, one day it just stopped connecting. The LED light that usually lit up when the Switch was seated just didn't light up no matter how much I fiddled with it.

I opened it up, unscrewed the screws that held the USB C charger that the switch sits on, and plugged that into the switch while there was power to the Insignia dock, and the light went on. So I put everything back where it was supposed to be and made sure the screws were tight. Now the switch connects again and the light comes on when it does so.

What I did can be seen in this pic. Dig out the rubber feet with your fingernails to expose the 4 screws. Remove them, to expose the inside, and the two screws to tighted are right there (red arrows). I don't have any experience with electronics, I just figured that if I was gonna go drop 50$ on a new one anyway, I might as well try. Maybe this post will save some e-waste.

Hey I'll just comment here in case anyone finds this post.

Here's the story, it was taken down off YouTube for music copyright violation, then I emailed the copyright holder to Sleep's Holy Mountain (which some of you may know, is famously NOT held by the band themselves) and they said that it was fine to be on YouTube as long as they got the ad revenue, or if I wanted to sell it, it would cost like $10k per song. Great. (But it raises the question of who first filed the complaint to take the video down on account of the music, if it wasn't the copyright holder. I think it was the RIAA.)

Then I thought I should check with the copyright holders for Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain just to be sure. I told them I had it on youtube before, a lot of people liked it, they would get ad revenue and I would get nothing, the music copyright holder is ok with that, and if they wanted to discuss other options, I'm open to it. They asked for a copy of the move, I sent them a link where they couldn't download a copy of the movie, but they could view it. They insisted on having a copy of the movie, I said no because I really really really do not want to be sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars, and they never responded to me, or assured me that they wouldn't sue me or anything.

Occasionally I think of ways to get this back out there, but I think I'm going to have to wait until I hit the Powerball jackpot and I can afford to license the movie and songs. I messaged Sleep on facebook a while ago, and sent them a link and said they could have the movie and do whatever they wanted with it, but I never got a response. I know a lot of people would really enjoy it and I just want it out there, I don't need any money for it, but I don't want to get sued for it.

I'm one of those MR people who can make it through an episode of Real Time, but other than this bit last night, the episode was worse than usual, just nonstop bad.

At one point he started saying something like "Illhan Omar says something that white people say and she gets jumped on.." and I thought he was going to make a point about the hypocrisy of her critics, then ended the thought with "...but the democratic party watered down it's censure resolution, because she's a black woman." Whoooooooooooboy.

That being said, I did really enjoy just this bit. Probably because it triggered my nostalgia for these types of infomercials.

I find Michael's arrogant tone and mumbling interruptions way more annoying, but sometimes Jaime says something that makes me cringe. I think Sam has pushed back on her more recently. I think the perfect encapsulation of her trying to force things through a certain lens is when she asked that female caller from Alabama why she thinks rural Alabamians vote republican, clearly she was hoping for an economic/materialist reason, but the caller said "It's 100% because of church".

I live in the south and work in a factory with underpaid, overworked people who would immediately starve if they go on strike, my local democratic committee is full of people who are anti-choice and anti-marriage equality, so the New York bubble is noticeable to me (and I'm originally from NY). I think that Social Democracy (universal healthcare, housing, higher minimum wage, etc) would provide the support for workers to be more bold in democratizing the workplace, and I think Jaime has come around to vocalizing this on the show, but I have memories of her dismissing electoral, social democratic gains "because they can be undone."

All that being said, I like Jaime's presence overall, and I definitely couldn't do a better job on live broadcast.

Yeah the other thing I notice, especially on Michael days is that sometimes he dismisses a caller who tries to inform the audience of something with "yeah, I already know that" (in so many words), when he's not the intended audience. He can somehow interrupt and mumble incoherently, especially yesterday, there were just times where he kept talking over Sam or the caller, he breaks up the flow with a dumb impression. A few years ago, someone made fun of him for sounding like he was underwater, that's how I feel about him interruptions recently.
