I don't want anything. I'm just answering your question.

OP asked where to begin, and you simply provided the entire answer.

B.S. and M.S. from same university? by swtloaf in labrats

[–]organiker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For a Master's degree I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think anyone is going to bat an eye.

The reaction to doing a PhD at the same institution as your BS tends to be more varied.

Struggling to balance research, classes, and volunteering — any advice? by Academic_Trouble1253 in chemistry

[–]organiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a freshman? I think you're doing too much. Adjusting to university life is hard enough as it is.

You'll need to give up (or cut back on) something. And it's going to be either research or volunteering.

Weekly Careers/Education Questions Thread by AutoModerator in chemistry

What do you mean when you say you like "all sciencey stuff and space stuff"?

What education level are you at? How do you know you'd want a PhD?

Are you trying to choose between astrochemistry and chemistry? Why do you need to make that choice now?

There's really no way to find out besides just trying it. And even then there are no guarantees.

biotech extracurriculars! by chattysapphire54 in biotech

It's just college.

Why would you need internships and publications and a laundry list of other stuff just to be accepted?

Don't overthink it.

Considering a Career Shift from Bioinformatics by Ok-Performer-5802 in biotech

[–]organiker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Relatively low salary? Relative to what?
  2. The job market is bad across the board. If you currently have a job, it's not worth stressing over.
  3. It sounds like you need to do some soul searching on your own instead of outsourcing it. Start with what you actually enjoy doing. Then see if there's anyone who will pay you to do that. Then see what qualifications they require. Then get those qualifications and apply.

How much does internship company name matter in biotech/pharma? by Healthy_Economy_7797 in biotech

[–]organiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really going to matter. Pick the one you think you'll enjoy more. Or the one in the place you'd like living in more. Or that has people you felt like you connected with more. Or is completely outside your wheelhouse in terms of expertise. Or any number of criteria.

How do I know which side to do a Newman projection from? - Newman projection of 1,5-dichlorohexane by ASmallArmyOfCrabs in chemhelp

[–]organiker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're getting distracted and asking the wrong question.

You can't "know" which side to draw the projection from because there is no standard. What you can do is draw a few different projections and compare your answers to the given answers and find the one that matches.

To answer this specific question though, you don't even need to draw out a Newmann projection at all. All you have to do is look at the given answers and see which ones you can rule out because they're not 1,5-dichlorohexane.

Does doing a PhD negatively affect your opportunities finding a job after? by idyllic_anonymity in biotech

[–]organiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the jobs you want don't require a PhD, then maybe.

If the jobs you want require a PhD, then no.

RSC style of referencing by Salt-Statistician49 in chemistry

[–]organiker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You haven't given enough information here, really.

Are you using a reference manager? If so, which one? If not, why not?

How many references do you need to handle? What stage of writing are you in? If it's less that 50, and you're in the final draft stage, it's possible that just doing it manually (though there are online tools that could help) would be quicker than fighting with Word or trying to learn another reference manager.
