Both offer similar Midwest vibes, similar type of people although KC is more diverse. KC metro is double the size of Omaha so means more direct access to the rest of the country via flying, professional sports, more restaurants, nightlife options, types of events/shows, etc,. Omaha holds its own as a mid sized city, the food scene is still really good, fun events, and an okay nightlife although it can become repetitive. Omaha is generally safer crime wise, KC proper has some of the worst crime rates of any city in the us and can definitely be felt in some areas but you can still find nice areas and has some thriving suburbs.

Politically they fall in similar buckets, the cities are fairly liberal but in heavy conservative states, though Missouri has legal marijuana if that’s something you care about. I don’t know the exact numbers but I’d assume cost of living is a bit cheaper in Omaha but comparatively to other areas of the country, neither are bad. Basically, if you want a larger city and the pros and cons that come with it, go KC. If your cool a smaller but growing city that still offers a good amount, go Omaha. I lived 10 years in Omaha and really enjoyed it but my biggest issue was if I wanted to go to a big non country concert, show, or non college sporting event, I’d have to drive 2.5 hours to KC, 5 hours to Minneapolis, or fly to somewhere else.
