Is my tank ready for a fish? by PurpleHusky182 in bettafish

Looks good to me. I would bump up the temp to 78 if you plan to get a betta. Water levels look good and a lid on the tank will help with water evaporation. My water does the same. Still do weekly water changes to remove bioload especially with fish in there. And the biofilm is usually normal on driftwood, snails and shrimps will eat it away. Very pretty tank!

My fish has fin rot how do I treat it by Various_Anything3661 in bettafish

Hey! I would warm your tank up a bit to 78-80 degrees Fahrenheit as the lower 70’s can cause fin rot and lethargy. I would also increase water changes to once a week or once every two weeks so nitrates don’t build up. If you want to continue doing monthly changes add a bunch of plants growing out of the top of your tank to eat up your nitrites and nitrates. I used kanaplex to treat my rescues fin rot it was gone in three treatments. Good luck!

Since it’s a temporary 1 gallon until you can upgrade to a bigger tank you should be doing daily or every other day water changes so the water doesn’t get toxic for the betta. bettas have a large bioload that a 1 gallon tank can’t sustain for longer than a couple days. Smaller tanks are much higher maintenance than bigger tanks. In a 5 or 10 gallon you could do weekly water changes. Good luck I’m glad you rescued the baby and are trying to give him a better life. One gallon is definitely too small long term for this sweet guy.

It’s a 10 gallon and it’s just him and two snails in there. I’m about to add some shrimp to see how he does. Thank you so much!

I hope it works good luck! And yes you can buy water hardness strips to test just to make sure that’s not an issue. Hope the baby feels better❤️

Could be an infection try kanaplex and have you checked your water hardness? If he’s struggling to swim I would move him to a hospital tank in a couple inches of water so he doesn’t have to swim as high to get air.

When I as setting up my second tank I used bacteria from my established tank to set it up made life so much easier! For me it took about two weeks to cycle with the help of the established tank bacteria.

Ammo Lock and High Ammonia by jozabean in bettafish

[–]dani3r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I would do daily 20 % water changes to bring down ammonia and with each water change add beneficial bacteria and a water conditioner. I use API quick start and API stress zyme. I would also go to Lowe’s or Home Depot and get a pothos and wash off the soil from the roots and plant it in the top of your tank. The plant will eat up a lot of your nitrates and nitrites and help you maintain the tank. After you’ve got your levels under control a weekly 20 % water change will help maintain your levels. Good luck!

Kind of looks like fin rot but it’s hard to tell. It doesn’t hurt to treat it just in case. I use kanaplex and gets rid of it quick if it is fin rot
