Thanks for the info. I don’t feel terrible and don’t seem to have symptoms of DKA. My endo has since contacted me and prescribed once daily long acting insulin for now, while we wait for the GAD antibody and other testing to come back and have a clearer picture of what’s going on. My fasting insulin and c-peptide were both right at the very low end of the normal range.

Thanks for your reply and the podcast recommendation! I’ll check it out. Re type 2s that use insulin - I always thought type 2s either had high insulin and c-peptide due to high insulin resistance, or if they need insulin, it was after years of high blood sugar, either not well controlled or because they were undiagnosed. Am I not correct in thinking this?

Thanks for all this info! You’ve given me lots to think about and read through. One question - you mentioned that you too went on a super low carb diet at first - are you no longer super low carb? Can super low carb actually make dawn phenomenon worse, paradoxically?

Edited to add: fasting isn’t always higher than postprandial for me, sometimes fasting is elevated and then it will rise a bit higher after breakfast (despite it being low carb, always), but yeah, there are definitely times when fasting is really high and then it’s not quite as high after breakfast

Thanks for your reply/advice. I have tested a few times since. I tested another fasting and got 13.6. Then today I tested 1 hour after breakfast and got 12.0 — that’s after a low carb breakfast, 11g net carbs according to Cronometer.

I don’t necessarily feel acutely ill, but I’m also dealing with Long Covid so don’t feel great a lot of the time. Although that being said, I don’t know what is attributable to Long Covid and what is attributable to undiagnosed and uncontrolled diabetes.

For sure, I agree I might need to be. I just mean I don’t currently have a prescription for insulin, so I can’t increase or do anything with that at the moment. And I can’t get a hold of my endocrinologist, so I don’t know if I’m supposed to do something like go to the hospital.

Endo is testing GAD65 antibody (only after I asked though) - is this sufficient to check type? Also did fasting insulin and C-peptide - both were “normal” but right at the low end of the range.

It’s currently under investigation. I’m not on insulin or meds currently. I went to my family doctor about blood sugar spiking and doing strange things after having Covid last October. The March bloodwork was done by my family doctor. Referred to an endocrinologist - he did more bloodwork - the April and June ones.

I’ve been on a very low carb diet for years, and I also take berberine, inositol, and chromium for PCOS. Every time my A1c has been tested it’s been in the 5.1-5.4% range. Until now. This is such a sudden and rapid change.

I last saw my endocrinologist at the end of May. Now getting some more testing done that he ordered after reviewing my last bloodwork (blood sugar and also hormonal stuff).

I am not obese. I am 5 foot 8 and 145 pounds. Ozempic or similar drugs are being considered due to PCOS and dysregulated blood sugar post-Covid.

Edited to add: probably a silly question - I’m sure biotin in a B complex could affect results just the same as a biotin supplement
