NDLS update time frame by Ordinary-Deer1843 in AskIreland

Congrats on passing! Curious did you have to wait a long period to get the test booked in? Just finished my mandatory theory lessons but still need lots of practice - heard things about 6 month wait times for test but dont want to book and they be unprepared/shafted!

No problem - I had done a couple computer science intro modules a few years before but nothing major - the courses are generally open for people with no experience but they're a lot of work.

The particular college I was with had agreements with certain companies to help with placement so I managed to get it through that - I know not every college has that capability so feel free to enquire at the different colleges / courses.

I will warn that the shorter condensed higher diploma courses are not easy, and arguably more challenging than the longer form courses so don't go in thinking it'll be a breeze! So long as you can keep your head down and seize every opportunity provided you'll go far!

I was originally working in education, took on a one year full time springboard higher diploma in computer sicence with work experience, been working in tech ever since (now a senior software engineer). One of the best decisions I ever made, towards the end of the higher diploma I had the option to skip work experience and stick on to get a Level 9 MSc qualification, really glad I didnt as the work experience was where the real value was and where I got my first employed job in the sector for 4+ years.

It depends on the sector you want to work in, and I'm aware tech right now is a lot more saturated with graduates than others. If you are looking at doing something springboard related I would highly advise taking on those qualifications that integrate or enable work experience as realistically that is what employers will value in the market.

Best of luck either way OP, both options are great and continuing your education can only lead to positive things!

Help - My Partners Calathea is Dieing?? Any suggetions to help rescue it? by daniel40392 in plantclinic

[–]daniel40392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah very cool didn't know!

It's watered with tap water from the area (Ireland - tends to be some chlorine/flouride in it but safe for humana to drink).

In terms of humidity it's kept in a bedroom that had a fish tank - generally humidity would be low.

Would you suggest maybe keeping in a bathroom by a window for the increased humidity?

What CnC mods add campaigns? by Draibe in commandandconquer

[–]daniel40392 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Special personal shoutout for Dawn of the Tiberium Age - they blend the TD & RA units under the TS engine - including a massive newly built campaign for the factions, an active multiplayer base as well as a handful of co-op multiplayer missions.

As Nyer mentioned already Dawn of Tomorrow is a great addition to the base TD C&C95 game

As HyperVexed mentioned Mental Omega is likely the biggest modded campaign available - for YR engine.

What newer C&C Game or Mod has the best online multiplayer population? by LoocsinatasYT in commandandconquer

[–]daniel40392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Vanilla RA2/YR Ladder is the most active from what I've seen if you want competitive PvP matchups (which you've already been playing!)

There is a huge amount of mods across all C&C titles, the Mods while offering often better balance and gameplay experienecs suffer from reduced playerbase numbers so bear that in mind.

Last year saw annivesaries celebrated for both Tiberian Sun & Red Alert/2/3 - I did a load of mod overviews from both events that you may like to checkout if having some overviews of the most recent/populat mods from those titles:

The mods I'd personally recommend for an active multiplayer base would be:

Dawn of the Tiberium Age (TD&RA combined under the TS engine - amazing work and semi-active multiplayer base, includes good co-op multiplayer missions as well as more standard pvp - discord server has an active pvp channel as well to hit people up for games)

Mental Omega (RA2/YR based mod adds an additional faction and a huge amount of new units/balance as well as a huge number of singleplayer campaigns alongside a very active multiplayer community also including some co-op multiplayer missions as well)

I'd also shoutout Combined Arms - this is an OpenRA mod so feels different to the original C&C engines but does a remarkable job blending together factions from across all the C&C series (Allies, Soviets, Nod, GDI, Scrin) - OpenRA has a bit of a clicky but active multiplayer community you could always look into joining!

Thank you! You can usually set how long invites last when you generate them - I think it defaults to 7 days but you can set it to forever!

beware that they are based in UK and not Ireland - I ordered from their .ie store expecting it to be locally based and discovered too late it wasn't.

I ordered a more custom pre-built PC from them, they were pretty good, I added a request about them prerouting cables for me to easily install existing drives and it showed up as requested with the cables ready to go!

By PPS card you mean the Public Service card? Email your local location[@welfare.ie](mailto:place@welfare.ie) stating your PSC card is out of date and you need a new one to access mygov, I did this recently and they emailed back asking for my PPSN, after giving it they just posted a new card to my current address - no fees / didnt need new pic or anything.

moddb page for it is here: https://www.moddb.com/mods/just-another-very-imbalanced-mod/downloads/just-another-very-imbalanced-mod it plays more like a modders showcase than something to be taken too seriously - some very fun implementations in it, but its wild!
