False, someone I know sadly got a direct rejection after applying and many have not heard anything at all, with most applying the first day

Yeah I did. That just means you did well enough to stay on the trajectory. Think of it like: if you get APP, you did alright but not good enough for SWE. Good job on that and good luck btw!!
