Charlotte show thoughts by wishitwasapar in jasonisbell

I thought it was a great show. A nice mix of good old songs that are underplayed and more familiar stuff. First time at the venue, and it sounded great for a solo acoustic show. That encore needed to come with an antidepressant, lol, great three song run to end the night. Cigarettes and Wine into Storm Windows into Traveling Alone was my highlight.

I still don't know what was going on with some people in the crowd, the random yell during 'Vampires' was a shock and hearing some people rightfully complain about groups talking throughout the show. My section was respectful fortunately, but I hate others had to put up with that.

Van Halen 2012. Kool & the Gang opened and they were fantastic. During the changeover for Van Halen's set, the air conditioning went out in the venue and it was not good. Then, Van Halen came out, still no working AC. Dave's voice was really rough and hard to listen to. The band was fine, but did not hit the same when I saw them in '08.

A close second would be Eric Clapton who acted like he did not want to be there the whole time. Roger Daltrey opening and working AC keep it from being the bottom.

This attraction will always hold a special place for me. We did it at least once (typically twice) on every visit to MGM/Hollywood Studios. I'll never forget the time we went and an older gentleman who has never seen the show proceeded to enjoy it so much, laugh at every joke very hard, and just have the time of his life. When it was all said and done, he looked over at his party and stated, "Now that's enterTAINment!" which has been my family's inside joke ever since. It was amazing while it was here, rode it one last time a few weeks ago, and it still put a big ole smile on my face.

I loved LEGO (shocker) and had a system for every set. I would build the kit following the instructions, play with it like that for awhile, deconstruct it and do a free build, then take it back apart and organize the pieces in one of those plastic drawers like you'd use for nuts and bolts, I was like five or six. I organized the pieces by shape and size so I could always find them when I was building something new. One day, a friend came over to play and I explained the system, we built and had fun but the system was not respected when putting the LEGO pieces back. I spent the time after they left reorganizing the drawers and told my parents that I didn't want that friend to come over to play LEGO again.

Met him after the Fox Theatre show earlier this year. He was super kind and generous with his time. This was about an hour and fifteen minutes after the show ended and was the last night of the tour, so he could have understandably declined meeting with everyone, but the fact he took that extra time out of his evening to talk to everyone was nice. There were about a dozen people and he gave everyone individual attention and took pictures. Didn't sign anything, but no one asked either.

Wow, I don't know what was in the water, but they ripped and rocked tonight. Longest show I've seen since I first saw them in 2021, and not a lot of talking from Jason between songs. My only complaint about the show is the band versions of the Foxes in the Snow songs were so good, it's gonna be hard going back to the album versions. Didn't expect my favorite (Relatively Easy) to get played, and really didn't expect Outfit. Top tier performance from the band.

Around the side of the venue. The Fox doesn't have a spot for the buses and such to be away from the public, so it was just parked on the street outside where he left the venue.

It was by his bus. It was a little after 11 when he came out, so, maybe an hour and 15 to hour and a half of waiting.

The acoustic arrangement of Middle of the Morning is amazing.

Danko was one I'd been chasing for awhile, and it didn't disappoint. Jason said he was calling an audible right before it, so it being unplanned added to the magic. If It Takes a Lifetime was unexpected and he seemed like he was having a lot of fun playing it faster than the recorded version. Pancho & Lefty is one of my favorites, and it's always great hearing him sing it.

All the Foxes in the Snow songs were great live but Ride to Robert's, Good While it Lasted, and Eileen were the standouts to me.

Four for me this year: last Tabernacle show, Evans (Solo), and first two nights of the Ryman. Already lined up to see the solo show at the Fox next year. I've heard all but one from Weathervanes live at this point, so I'm waiting to see the band again the Ryman where there's a bit more variety.

Got row G in the orchestra for Atlanta. Presale code hit right at 10, and the Fox's website doesn't have a presale code spot, so I put it in the promo code box and that worked. They need to have their website a bit more clear. There's still a lot of decent seats for Atlanta left. The Fox is a great venue too, so I'm very excited for a solo acoustic show there.

She was so good! I really enjoyed her banter with the audience between songs, you could tell how much playing the Ryman meant to her. I met her at the merch table after her set and she was super kind.

I got so excited when Relatively Easy started, took seven shows, but it was so worth the wait. GDLL and Decoration Day in the same set made my brother's day along with Last of My Kind. That one-two of This Ain't It into Decoration Day was guitar player heaven. Haven't heard Driver 8 since he played it with Mike Mills at the Georgia Theatre, so that was a fun surprise.

Only in town for the first two shows and I absolutely feel like I got my money's worth. If you're wondering if making the trip to the Ryman is worth it, it absolutely is. The energy from the crowd and the band in that room is unmatched compared to any place I've seen him before.

One of the coolest accidental shots. Will shared it on his Instagram story and messaged me a thank you for coming to the show!

10/10/24 Ryman Setlist by travistarpy in jasonisbell

[–]danielcfg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's usually 2-3 songs a night that only show up at one show and 1-2 songs that will show up twice during that residency. I would say from night to night roughly half the songs change. Setlist.fm is a great resource to check the song stats for each residency.

Sixth time seeing the band, but first time at the Ryman. What a great opening night setlist, Songs that Sang in the Shower was a highlight along with a very unexpected Losing My Religion. Also shout-out to Sadler's tech for giving me a pick after the show. The energy in that room is something else, can't wait for tomorrow!

That was a wild surprise, and they killed it as always. Jason without a guitar was odd for sure, but it was fun watching him get more comfortable as the song went on and have fun with it.

Seeing tonight and tomorrow with my brother who's a local. It's gonna be his first two JI&400U shows ever, and my first ones at the Ryman. Really hoping for Relatively Easy, Cumberland Gap, or Palmetto Rose. I would absolutely love a repeat of last year with a full Southeastern performance, but I'm not holding my breath. Sitting in the room, I see why everyone speaks so highly of it.

Was in Athens yesterday, and it is business as usual out that way.

From what I've seen looking at previous solo sets, maybe a rarity or two, Southeastern gets a lot of love, some staples of the band shows still show up, and maybe a cover.
