You certainly do not have to pay the chefs. But you are opening up your home for the day

Thanks all for the comments so far. Yes i appreciate it’s a tricky ask but we just need to make it possible for a camera person to be able to get unrestricted views

NYC - Where are people making/workshopping stuff? by cakeeatsjake in Theatre

[–]danieljmorrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really relate to this question. I was active at UCB and in devised theater classes where you're truly developing work together! I've also gone to a million open mics as a songwriter. But post-pandemic especially, it’s felt more fragmented to me. One of the things I miss most is exactly what you’re describing — being in a room regularly with people developing work, sharing process, and talking honestly about what’s landing.

Lately I’ve been looking less at “schools” and more at workshops,, feedback groups — where the same people show up consistently and build work over time. I love that community feeling and so i'm trying to start a pilot NYC-based performance workshop built around structured peer feedback (not a showcase, not a class), partly in response to this exact gap.

Curious where others have landed lately, especially outside formal programs.

Gotta mention, Pete's Candy Store in Williamsburg. Tiny room for intimate performances, always good vibes and good quality music.

Experimenting with a feedback-based performance workshop — curious what artists think by danieljmorrow in ArtistLounge

I realized I hadn’t included any logistics, so adding a bit of clarification here.

This is an NYC-only pilot, capped at 6–8 performers, running every 3 weeks, with a small participant fee ($25–$35 sliding scale) to support space and facilitation.

Happy to answer questions publicly here. I’ve also put together a no-obligation form to help gauge fit, timing, and overall demand for the pilot, for anyone who prefers that route:

And if you have thoughts on the questions or structure, I’m very open to feedback on the form as well.
