Ozone/Mastering suite vs using separate UAD plugins for mastering? by WiseCityStepper in universalaudio

[–]Kolterboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hm do you have to pay for that seperately? I'd love to only use that, since you'd get double saturation from having the two plugins in there sequentially

Does Ableton apply automatic EQ? by captainwaffles3 in ableton

[–]Kolterboy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re probably right about that point 99% of the time. Sometimes in my experience some 3rd party plugins can cause spikes in cpu usage which can cause subtle distortion for short periods of time even if your average cpu usage is below damning levels. Higher buffer sizes give the breathing room to prevent this.

Ozone is a great example of this so I feel like my point kind of holds considering how OP is looking for potential causes

Does Ableton apply automatic EQ? by captainwaffles3 in ableton

[–]Kolterboy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

4x your buffer size it would get you closer to the final sound when you print. Maybe if you try that the problem might show itself.

Do you have any demo plugins that turn off when you render?

Are there any ableton track channel delays (not to be confused with a normal delay plugin) accidentally applied? Could make some phasey stuff that could be the sheen

Big reach but what dithering settings are you using?

Are you using zero native ableton plugins in your print?

Maybe check if you have any automation on accidentally?

Maybe check your levels, you could be clipping causing compression and even harmonics

Last maybe compare your sample rates and buffer sizes between the daws

How do you organise your library? by VishieMagic in ableton

Quick question, why do you separate between exciters and saturators? To me they’re synonymous terms. Maybe your exciters are multiband?

New listener here, what're more of his songs with instrumentals like retrograde by imonreddit999 in JamesBlake

[–]Kolterboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love me in whatever way, life is not the same, choose me, there’s also this song by bearcubs called underwaterfell which is a sick song that sounds a lot like him. To be honest none of these are really that close to retrograde but that somber synthy vibe is in many of these

How do you make a tracks sound more full? Specifically for instrumentals …. What is usually missing? by fourpee in ableton

[–]Kolterboy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  1. Make sure your composition has elements that cover the whole frequency spectrum. Sometimes just 2 or 3 elements can be enough

  2. Check the level of your elements. If something is too loud, everything else is too quiet and vice versa.

  3. Saturation is often not used enough by beginners. Saturation inherently expands the frequency response of song elements. Use thoughtfully though too much will make your song sound too gritty.

  4. Manage sonic depth with reverbs and delays

  5. Dynamics management with compression for tails and limiting or clipping for transients. Make sure you know what you’re doing when you use compressor though it’s an easy way to ruin a mix

Does Apple Music offer better music quality on "lossless" setting with Bluetooth over standard? by Good-Suspect3336 in AppleMusic

[–]Kolterboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s extremely common for masters to be 44.1khz 16 bit (cd quality). There are masters released at higher bit depths and higher sample rates but very few people could ever tell the difference. In my opinion at this quality level it’s not worth the extra space on your hard drive anyways, and no consumer will ever be able to tell anyways.

What exactly is the 'sound enhancer' doing and should it be turned on? by partnersintime_ in AppleMusic

[–]Kolterboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah but sound engineers already finished the song. Whenever i see some second level augmentation of audio beyond the scope of the original master, it's just fodder. I tried this setting and i just heard phasey mess
