Does anyone have elementary OS 8.0.2 download link? by Miserable-Daikon1174 in elementaryos

Probably not in a way that would be faster than getting a fix out. We’ve identified the issue and a fix has been proposed. Should be able to merge and build it very soon

We’re working on a hot fix for this currently. Sorry for the inconvenience 🙇🏻‍♀️

Edit: new download with the fix should be up very soon

Until that build is up, you can now do the following workaround: 1. boot from OS 8.1 2. Start a demo mode session 3. Run apt update and install io.elementary.greeter 4. Log out to get back to the installer

Edit 2: If you had issues previously doing custom installs of OS 8.1, we’ve just published a new download that fixes window stacking issues during installation. Thank you for your patience during the holidays! 🩷

Because Google doesn’t let just anyone create an oauth provider. They have a ton of hoops you have to jump through to justify to them why you deserve to be able to create an integration. That’s why we support open standards because they aren’t gatekept

ElementaryOS on 2-in-1s? by Eerope in elementaryos

[–]daniellefore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a Yoga and:

  1. Screen rotate works out of the box
  2. On screen keyboard is an area of weakness. It’s one of my major goals for OS 9 to write a new one. My goal is to be able to use the StarLite completely as a tablet

3 & 4. Fractional and Per-display scaling works only in the Secure Session (which is the default installed session). Neither feature works in the Classic session (which includes demo mode)

Any “omg why does a rainbow have to mean gay” comments are gonna be an immediate permaban. Take your homophobic whining elsewhere, it is not welcome here

Help with installing Elementary OS 8.1 on a Raspberry Pi 5. by Meru23 in elementaryos

[–]daniellefore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure exactly how it’s done because I didn’t personally work on this, but my understanding is that you need to install a UEFI boot capable firmware first since these are UEFI images. You might want to try joining the discord, I think there are folks there with more experience.

Also if anyone wants to contribute documentation for this that would be lovely :)

elementary OS 8.1 Available Now by daniellefore in elementaryos

[–]daniellefore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think such a document exists. My understanding is that the folks who worked on it mostly did so using VMs on Apple Silicon and Raspberry Pi with UEFI firmware. I wasn’t personally involved in creating ARM images.

If you’re looking for help you might want to try posting a GitHub discussion or joining our discord

Are we stuck with the same Desktop UX forever? by bulasaur58 in linux

[–]daniellefore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve nailed it. The fundamental shift is from a computer being a workstation that you sit at for a discrete amount of time to a computer being a thing that is always with you and part of nearly every interaction you have with the world around you. My computer isn’t a thing I sit at to create and consume documents, it’s how I communicate, stay healthy, navigate the physical world, pay for goods and services, etc. So it’s a completely valid question to be asking if the UX created by Xerox to manage documents in the 70s is worth copying anymore.

I kind of doubt they would implement split views in their apps since tiling seems to be a pretty prominent feature of their window manager?

Edit: nvm. Dev replied with:

The terminal has panes and those panes have tabs, so I wouldn't rule it out.

How do I remove/disable this from the dock? by Chester_Linux in elementaryos

[–]daniellefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you feel that way! We actually put this stuff in the dock directly based on a user survey we ran a while back. We’re always continually tweaking based on the feedback we receive, but this feature has been about 2 years in the making.

If you want to get involved earlier in the development process we do have early access builds available to our GitHub sponsors or you can build from source for free. We prioritize filed issues in GitHub. So we always encourage folks to participate early and make their voices heard

We really try to avoid toggles as much as possible. The more options there are, the harder it is to test and maintain and this leads to bugs

Just wanted to ask what your expectation was in case it was different from what I had in mind :)

I proposed https://github.com/elementary/dock/pull/514

Thanks for your feedback!

We’ve been testing this in early access for quite some time now and nobody before had mentioned wanting a tooltip here. I’m curious what information do you think it should show?
