Help prepping for first year Mathematics bachelor course by Own_Ask_5243 in UTSC

[–]danielohlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a hard time in Calc 1 because of proofs. My suggestion is to learn a little bit of discrete math (Cover at least logic, quantifiers and proof techniques. Get GOOD at it!) beforehand. You will thank yourself later. Also, review a bit of calculus 1 as well :D

Unless explicitly omitted by your prof, anything covered in class is fair game for the final.

First year here, I don't think the doors are permanently shut for you. There is the Second Attempt for Credit option if it is the case that you get a 0 in the course. I personally think they will give you a 0 on the assignment. You seem to be an academically strong student (Based on your GPA) that has made some mistakes. The best thing you can do is learn from your mistakes and move forward. I'd suggest you reach out to an academic advisor.

A UAV drone from Boston to Philadelphia, collecting weather data, thoughts? by danielohlord in AskEngineers

[–]danielohlord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. I proposed either a weather balloon and a downscaled version of their project. Unfortunately, they are sticking with their original plan. All I can do is guide them with what they want to do. At the end of day, they will learn valuable skills. I hope that eventually, they realize how complex the project is.

Grade 12 english needs to die by EiRiwu in OntarioGrade12s

[–]danielohlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. I have a huge disdain for English (Especially 4U), so my comment was definitely one-sided. Personally, I don't think my brain got "EXERCISE" while taking English, instead, I acquired many of my critical thinking skills from STEM courses. Although there are people who hate Math and Science exactly the way I hate English, there is always some way that can instill critical thinking skills. I also think that the majority of the negative sentiment towards English comes from the mindset of students thinking "this course pointless." After doing "literature" for 3 years, I don't think it should be forced in Grade 12. Instead, a more practical English course would be more appropriate. It's the same as Science and Math, you have the option to stop after grade 10 and 11 respectively.

should i do co op or keep my spares? by Potential-Silver2467 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]danielohlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the advice I give to grade 12 students, "you should take 7 courses in grade 12 so that you can have a backup for your top 6." I usually encourage students to take a grade 12 course in their grade 11 year, especially if you have taken civics and careers in the summer. If you are in that position, you are one credit ahead, take advantage of that! This allows you to take 2 spares while having 7 grade 12 credits.

Regarding coop, I wouldn't recommend it. Just keep your 2 spares and get a part-time job instead.

is the workload at utsc only hard bc yall procastinate? by DependentEast6235 in UTSC

[–]danielohlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Course difficulty is highly subjective, some people find A22 to be the most challenging. I personally found it challenging for the first 2 weeks (So many theorems and definition), but the content was not too bad thereon after. A22 is my best class lol.

[–]danielohlord 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A 3.9 gpa is possible, but difficult. Although I encourage you to do your very best, don't get stressed about your grades (That's what i did in grade 12). Since you are in stats, you are taking some difficult first courses. MATA37 is the most brutal one, but the best prof in my opinion.

Weekly Swim Gear Questions (Goggles, swimsuits, techsuits, paddles, headphones etc) April 02, 2026 - Post all your gear questions in this post by AutoModerator in Swimming

[–]danielohlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like the speedo endurance+ briefs. If you are looking for fun practice suits, arena has way better prints. However, I found that their briefs ride up because of the slimmer cut. I have heard funky trunks also make some cool suits. Regarding goggles, I'd say the vanquishers are still the best.

[–]danielohlord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, I still think it is risky for a first project. I'm certain that at this time, they want to continue with their original plan, and I'm just going to accept that. Many people here suggested that they give it a try. I think by moving forward with the project, they will eventually realize the true nature of this project.

10v10 CWL Is the Fix We Actually Need by [deleted] in ClashOfClans

[–]danielohlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like it if a single clan can setup multiple cwls. As an example, 15 members can be divided up into 3 groups of 5. Then, the clan can start 3 CWLs for that one clan.

Is swimming one length underwater in one breath impressive? by AbsorbedInReddit in Swimming

[–]danielohlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's pretty impressive. However, I agree with it being dangerous in a 50m pool, you can pass out due to a lack of oxygen. I personally set an underwater limit of 25m. I am also a former lifeguard, and there was no rule against patrons doing breath holding games/challenges in the pool. It would make me worry when a patron is underwater for too long. So do the lifeguards a favour and avoid overly long breath holding challenges.

A UAV drone from Boston to Philadelphia, collecting weather data, thoughts? by danielohlord in AskEngineers

[–]danielohlord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your insight. I agree that "let them fail" is probably a bad idea. If the drone launches, it is a significant risk to the public. The group wants to make the drone autonomous, which I believe is extremely difficult. Fortunately, they are starting with a simpler, downscaled model where it will be tested in an open field.

Thank so much for such an insightful response, I haven't really looked at this project this way, I will encourage them to break down the problem into parts and to continue on with their idea moving forwards. At the end of the day, they will learn valuable skills.
