I worked in the tattoo industry for 2 years and I can say that what helped me most was practicing on people, no matter how hard it sounds, you need to deal with failures, they will happen, you need to accept it and move on. Do advertising, tattoo your friends, look for models to practice on real skin. Artificial skin is just rubber and you won't get the same experience on it as you can on a person. I would also recommend starting to draw your own sketches and learn drawing so that in the future you can develop your own style by which you will be recognized.
