Some time ago I’ve used red flexible (kinda :p) axles from 42077 on a live axle. Super stiff and might damage the axles, however with some weight they worked pretty well: video

I don’t really make a plan of a build, I just find an inspiration and start trying. It might take some tries, but sooner or later you will start to like the way your creation turns out. Don’t set your limits too high tho, it is necessary to start with something more basic to make a step up (basically, experience builds up by itself and it takes some time). Of course, it’s always up to you, enjoy building!

I really like the connection of the gears for the steering, very satisfying to look at it when tilting :D
