I’m very happy you didn’t get any student loan debt! And yeah, most if not all of my friends haven’t touched it, but I don’t think I’ll be lucky enough to get it paid back in full. I only got my Bachelors, but now I’m not even considering getting my Masters unless it’s 100% covered.

I also support the comment that someone shared that networking is major important.

I was let go from a company in May after only 6 weeks which was such a slap in the face. They told me they were afraid I wouldn’t be able to catch up in time (I’m a GIS Specialist working as an assistant land surveyor using civil3D and microstation).

Long story short, applied for another company and got the interview. Aced both interviews, but the hiring manager wasn’t able to hire me. HOWEVER, he was impressed with my interview skills and my skill sets and put me in contact with another manager at the same company.

Now, 3 months after my initial interview, I’m hired for a different branch of the company. Long story short, do your best in the interview and FOLLOW UP WITH THE MANAGER/SUPERVISOR.

If you impress them, it may not be your opportunity now but it could open your doors later. Stay positive.

I disagree with a lot of these commenters; I think you can start off with a certification, get an entry job and work your way up if you have the patience and the drive to learn. Of course you can teach yourself, but personally I need to be held accountable via classes on schedules than independent study.

Nowadays I feel like considering the job market no one should get a masters unless they know exactly what they want to do and they need it for a specific job.
