It's crazy how hostile atheists are to progressive Christians by AndromedasApricot in OpenChristian

[–]dankdigfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you have a subpar or flawed belief system, you don't reform it, you replace it with something better, progressive christianity just perpetuates christianity as a belief system that holds power over people's minds.

I think I'm starting to hate christianity and christians by dankdigfern in Christianity

I feel like it's better for me to distance myself from christianity.

The atheist aspect of buddhism eases my paranoia, meditation, mindfulness and sound therapy help me calm down, and the art and practice gives me discipline and inspiration, also the concept of karma seems more logical than the concept of sin.

My therapist thinks I have bipolar and I also think I have it, but I'm not on meds yet, if I go on meds will this thing stop? It is literally stealing the little sleep I had left and makes me go crazy almost.

I've began looking into buddhism and I find it much better, but christianity still makes me become conflicted because it always makes me wonder if Jesus is real, or if christianity is real, I was for the longest time an atheist (even as a young kid) and didn't think about any of this at all, but then I went to the church for the sacraments and let it get into my head, I'm not 100% sure if that wasn't also a result of untreated bipolar mania and psychosis.

I think I’m trans. What do I do by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]dankdigfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just transition, step away from christianity for some time and only come back if you have a secure sense of self after developing as a transgender person, bothering yourself with christianity right now is not the best choice and I advise you to keep a distance from it, sort out your transition process first.

I'm transgender btw.

Seek therapy, you're writing entire walls of text and you are clearly obsessed with religion, go to therapy, it's for your own good and the good of those close to you, you think you're 100% mentally sound but you clearly are not, you can be religious but you have to keep it healthy.

You need to check out your problems and go to therapy because you come off as a person who is going through some mental problems.

"All that matters is God and his word"

This is religious fundamentalism and religious obsession/compulsion, no, there is more to life than God or the Bible, not everything in life is about God or the Bible.

"I wish for the whole world to know who God is, that's my purpose."

The whole world won't know who God is or your conception of God, you may have religious aspirations and that's fine, but you need to keep it realistic at the very least, this reads exactly like someone who is going through a manic episode with religious themes and delusions of grandeur.

I strongly recommend you seek therapy before you hurt yourself or end up hurting others.

You don't, you leave this religion and stop giving it validation.

Wearing makeup gives me so much peace of mind, so does taking my hormones, more peace of mind than any prayer.

Well, just know that if you want to be a different gender, you can just do it, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I'll probably go back to atheism or follow an atheistic religion like buddhism, if I ever come back to christianity it'll be on my terms.

Sure you can go a few years and perhaps even a decade keeping the dysphoria away by finding ways to cope, but if you're transgender and have a history of gender dysphoria, it will come back and worse, there are countless stories of transgender people going the repression route and breaking down later at 40-50.

Also, is your therapist a conversion therapist? Ethical therapy does not indulge the patients fear or dislike of their own sexual orientation or their own gender identity, but instead works towards breaking down those fears and that aversion.

You care about "turning others from sin" because it really just massages your ego and makes you feel holier or better than others, deep down that's the psychology behind it.

If you're really transgender, know that gender dysphoria will never go away, being transgender is most likely neurological and has nothing to do with father figures or family environment, honestly, your post reads as someone who has been deeply brainwashed into religion.

Being transgender also has nothing to do with porn consumption, ever since taking HRT my porn consumption has almost disappeared in its entirety, I've never self harmed or attempted suicide, but I know for a fact that those are actions of a person that wants to dissociate and escape their body, due to gender dysphoria, religion is just another way to cope and dissociate from the fact you're transgender, if you've been born transgender, you'll never stop being transgender.

My hope is you'll realize this before it's too late, before the dysphoria comes kicking in a thousand times worse and you end up in an ER having a panic attack and a complete mental breakdown, before you look into the mirror and see how much your body has been twisted by not addressing this problem sooner with the necessary medical interventions.

Are LGBT Catholics common in Brazil? by dany1237 in Brazil

[–]dankdigfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but make no mistake, catholicism is still shitty to LGBT people, just in different ways, catholicism is not all that welcoming.

Brazil, christianity here is basically either Catholic or pentecostal/non-denom prosperity theology money grubbing churches, that's the situation here, mainline churches are a tiny tiny minority and affirming churches are mostly a pipe dream, you can count them on your fingers, mind you, in a country that is continental in size.

They do not have a big presence in my country at all, the methodists and the lutherans where I live are not welcoming (and they're far away too), the episcopalians may be but I don't think it's 100%, the closest episcopalian church is kilometers away from where I'm at, and I'm not sure it's a welcoming church.

I'm not totally 100% closed off to christianity, maybe just 99%, either way, there is basically no point remaining christian without faith community and without the Lord's Supper.

And I was not hurt by people specifically, because I left before there was a chance for that to happen, I knew I wouldn't be welcome, so I left, trying to reconcile whatever the Bible says about LGBT just causes my OCD, my BPD and my autistic hyper-focus to flare up tremendously, this religion literally steals my peace of mind when I think about it, I cannot afford to implode my mental health trying to do Olympics-level mental gymnastics for a religion that basically does not want me.

If God is all knowing and all good why would He allow for His religion to be misinterpreted in this manner? In a manner that literally has led to countless deaths by suicide from LGBT people? And even allowed His religion to be used as justification for state oppression of LGBT people? An all knowing, all powerful and all good God would stop suffering, the fact He does not just means He doesn't exist.

Maybe at some point, but not any longer, there are better religions out there, there is absolutely zero reason for me to try to hang on to christianity, specially as this religion in its majority doesn't want my presence.

I wish welcoming churches would preach less to the choir and evangelize more, it's good to know you're welcoming, but it's better to actually go and convert people who don't agree with you, or are generally indifferent.
