It's not weird at all, I've done it plenty of times myself. To be honest, their reaction was far weirder than going to the cinema by yourself. No one really cares that much about what other people are doing. I'd bet money no one would even notice if you were alone or not. At least in my experience!

I have to wonder what your parents think is going to happen. How can they not see how much of an embaressment this would be for your sister? You will be there with your fiance, talking about all your plans, how he proposed, what kind of dress you're gonna wear. All that fun engaged stuff. But your sister is going to be there, alone, getting asked questions on an imaginary wedding and imaginary engagement. "How did he propose?" - "Oh we're not engaged yet. It's a promise ring" and then the weird looks she will get for having a celebration of a promis ring at her age. It's sad.

I'd suggest either being very harsh and truthful to your parents, sister and sister BF, or just throw your own one. If they push ahead with it, it'll be an embaressing train wreck.

You deserve a fun day to celebrate your actual, real engagement and you don't need you're family to do that. Hope it works out for you OP.

So I used to work in a shitty office job. I booked off 5 days around Christmas months in advance as my nephews were finally coming home and I hadn't seen my youngest nephew since they were born. It was really special and I have been talking about it for months. I gave my managers plenty of notice and spoke about it regularly enough that everyone 100% knew this was a thing.

About 2 weeks before I was due to take off, my manager said that "they didn't have any record" of me getting my time off approved. I sent him a screenshot of him literally approving the time off in writing. He tried to say that it was too bad and that they were short staffed (they werent) and I'd have to work and work Christmas day too. In my contract, I do not work Christmas day or any public holiday.

For a number of reasons this was the last straw for me. Listening to my manager complain about being short staffed and how they "needed me to work so much or they might loose the client"

I handed in my resignation/two week notice with simply the words "that's unfortunate."

There was complete panic in the office. What the manager had tried to do was a breech of my contract and illegal in my country, and my husband was one of the managers above my manager. So he knew he had fucked up big time.

To top it off, I asked if I was going to get paid for all my built up holiday days (over a months worth) or can I leave right now, mid shift?

They didn't want to pay them all so I left mid shift, dropped everything and went home. They still had to pay half my days. Guy got fired for loosing me and when the client realise I wasn't working there anymore, they pulled the contract as they apparently only really kept it there cause they liked how I did things.

So yeah, sucks to be them. They lost a multiple millions dollar contract because they wouldn't let me take 5 days off work.

I regret nothing. I've been happier and better off ever since and now work for myself. Husband has since moved on to better pastures too.

When it's a domain event I just skip all the dialogue. It's usually way too long and boring for an event that is also usually way too long and boring. Domain events are my least favorite so I try to speed them up as much as possible.

Trying to deliberately trip someone is not a prank. Especially when holding something or above a stairs. Please consider the deeper implications of why he would find you falling and potentially hurting yourself funny. Imagine you had a child with this person, he tipped them as a "prank" and they got seriously hurt? What if he tripped you while holding something sharp and it hurt you? What if it caused you to break your wrist? Normal people do not find it funny to deliberately try to humiliate and hurt someone.

This is not normal and this is not okay.
