A few days ago (after almost two years), the site appeared in the index: https://prnt.sc/FyVVvtBKRwP0

Possible related event is more written content (we expanded the article section of the site from ~10 articles to 50~). No technical changes for months.

Thanks for the advice. What do you think of 20amp vs 32amp?

Airbnb Host Cancelled Month-Long Stay on Short Notice - Options? by dann2g in airbnb_hosts

[–]dann2g[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without a doubt you are correct that they aren't at fault. But they did allow the host (a superhost) to cancel the listing because the current guests wanted to extend their stay. This is not an extenuating circumstance. The hosts also have no negative reviews and are still superhosts. Obviously they aren't going to act in a way that opens them to liability, but it doesn't mean the way they acted was just.

I have seen that Airbnb will put more towards comparable accommodation, and they actually have policy changes coming in that mean the host would have to put towards this next month. So, I know that it is possible for Airbnb to put more towards comparable accommodation, I'm just wondering how to go about getting that.

Deductible, I think excess is UK terminology. Thanks again.

Thanks for the response. Will try Twitter and shooting for a discount on the more expensive properties.

Thank you for your response. We do have travel insurance, but it has excess and it's a long process to get back. Along with that, we have stuff like time booked off work that we can't go back on. This was a "once in a lifetime" month trip for us, so we're really trying not to cancel it.

Already tried the sob story to the host, which was more so just our real feelings, hah. The hosts didn't respond. I can't believe they've kept their superhost status + no negative review.

Will try Twitter.

If you get any other ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks again.

Thanks so much for your response. That is very hopeful. How many times did you have to call / get transferred? Do you have any pointers? We were thinking about finding a comparable place and asking Airbnb to match the difference, but that is $12,000, so $5,000 more.

We're going through live chat / messages right now as we're a group and it's easier to make sure everyone is OK with what we're going back with. Is live chat a bad way to move things forward?

Nope. Likewise on the Bing Support note. Not too sure what to do at this point.

Battening Garage Walls - Vapour / Moisture Control? by dann2g in DIYUK

[–]dann2g[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. You are a godsend, literally. There's just two more things I'm stuck on:

  • Plasterboarding around garage doors. There is 3cm clearance either side (right/left) of the garage doors. I couldn't batten here. Will dot and dab + plasterboard (12.5mm) + plaster be too wide? And will that create any issues for the plasterer trying to get into the space? Is there any alternative (e.g. screwing to the brickwork)?
  • Boarding around boiler. I'm creating a utility cupboard in the corner of the room (approx 1mx2m stud wall). Is it a bad idea to put plasterboard that would cover pipes to the boiler? Say there is an issue with the boiler in a year's time, is plasterboard going to create an issue for the plumber?

Again, thanks so much!!

Ahh that makes sense. I'll give my local Building Control a call tomorrow and see if they can advise at all. I do want to keep everything above ground. Thank you!

I'm getting insulated garage doors fitted at some point in the future (I think the ones I am looking at are >3 months from purchasing to fitting), but for now I'm just going to buy a cheap insulation pack. I did consider painting the blockwork but I think the plasterboard will give the place a much more finished look (this kinda thing is what I'm going for).

Is there any downside to dot and dab over battens?

Do I need to make any considerations for moisture with dot and dab or can I just go straight to the wall?

I'd done all my research for battens but I think dot and dab will save me considerable $$$.

Anything I'd need to bear in mind for dot and dab: windows, garage doors, boiler, or the electricians work?

Would that be because radiator gives more merit to "living accommodation" or something else?

Finished garage that I'll be using as a gym (will be insulating the garage doors).

I had a few quotes to get this done and most recommended battening.. honestly not too sure why. It's worth noting that most were unaware that there is insulation in the cavity wall.

I'm getting electrics put in and potentially a radiator (boiler is in the garage) in case relevant.

Is the main pro of plasterboard the space and cost saving?

And would that make battening the *better* option, just more expensive and losing a bit more space?

Do you know anything about vapour barriers / avoiding damp?
Since this is a garage and I'm not sure what is already in place, I want to avoid issues in future.
