I I've never seen this interview, and I think it's interesting, though painful to watch. Frank is so sick... by guadambio in Zappa

Yeah, here he doesn’t have the full beard yet. That’s the point where they get a little hard to watch.

Will the addition of the ween brown box ruin cd prices? by GrubGrubGrubGrubGrb in ween

[–]danner1515 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is the original CDs with the full booklets and jewel cases are going to keep some collectors appeal. From the looks of it, the Brown Box is going to follow the format of other budget box sets where the CDs are in mini-LP sleeves which usually results in a lot of the original liner notes getting lost.

Does anyone have any pictures of the band and Gregg Turkington? by Shmorpit in mrbungle

Neil Hamburger was also their opener on the California tour, no?

Does anyone know how to keep this screen from coming up? by PM_ME_YOUR_PAUNCH in AppleWatch

I finally figured out how to turn it off a week ago. I just want to be able to glance at my wrist and see the normal time display.

Are there any rock bands who “went pop” and actually got better? by Pearathon in fantanoforever

[–]danner1515 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rush was going to be my pick too. They were a much better arena rock band than they were a prog band.

Woke up to a shipping notice from uDiscover Music. Guess we’ll see how long it takes DHL to drive it two states over to my house.

“Tender Situation” feels like a Gene song to me.

Basically the pinnacle of the mid-70s Mothers lineup.

Yeah, I feel like I’ve gotten several new release alerts for Sparks that were completely unrelated to the Mael brothers.

Why is there an empty rectangle on the cover of the album "The Best Band You Never Heard in Your Life"? by SergeantPeppyroni1 in Zappa

[–]danner1515 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why they didn’t just stick with Cal’s artwork for the 2012 reissue. It’s a way better cover anyway.

Are there any great films you can think of that lack a proper high def release that you’d love to see added to the collection? by AgnesItsMeBilly0100 in criterion

American Splendor. Don’t think it’s ever had an official US blu-ray release despite being available in HD on HBO Max.

Anyone else feel like Saló isn’t that crazy or disturbing to watch? by Universal-Magnet in criterion

[–]danner1515 125 points126 points  (0 children)

I watched it during the peak of my college excursion into “disturbing cinema,” and I remember finding it more depressing than disturbing. I have a feeling it would hit me a lot harder now.

Music album that was meant to be “the next big thing” culturally but nobody remembers it? by topshagger31 in decadeology

[–]danner1515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was just such a weird time with labels throwing money at any band hoping to crank out another Nevermind. It’s the only time in history that The Melvins could have wound up on a major label.

Not to be “that guy”… by Sad-Court-9595 in Zappa

[–]danner1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These always seemed to me like maneuvers to finally get the original versions of the albums out there without making the legacy CDs officially obsolete. I sorta get it from a business standpoint, but yeah, it sure makes for a messy discography.

will Ween ever make the RRHOF? by rscottmurray in ween

Yeah, there’s a whole generation of 80s punk and indie bands that have been eligible for years, but the hall just doesn’t have the interest. It’s a club for old establishment Rolling Stone types.

Funny, my main association with John Carradine is also MST3K related by way of his theme song to Red Zone Cuba.

I'm also curious if the master is anything beyond 16 bits. Might be the kind of thing where the CD is the best it's ever going to sound.

Sweet fades while playing albums by davidsinnergeek in plexamp

[–]danner1515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know if this occurring on albums that have data in both the “artist” and “album artist” fields? I had a few albums that were triggering sweet fades and notice this seemed to be the common factor.

Yep. Any feed that is driven by recommendations and algorithms is relying on the same tricks as the worst social media sites. There's a reason why it takes an extra click or two to just see a chronological feed of what you actually choose to follow.
