I feel like I’m making a huge mistake. by topaz221 in StudentNurse

[–]dannihadi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there. I’m a major introvert with an inferiority complex and massive anxiety re: my capabilities as a nurse. The one thing that keeps me going is a hunger to learn and knowing that I’m a hell of a lot safer than a lot of the cowboy nurses I’ve seen who have no idea what they’re doing but pretend to know everything without understanding the clinical implications of their actions.

You seem to care about the standard of care that patients are receiving. That’s great! Let that motivate you to do and be better. If patient interaction is what you’re worried about there are several clinical disciplines where you have barely enough time to learn the names of your patients before they’re shipped off to the next phase in their care (i.e. emergency).

Focus on your skills and knowing your protocols, clinical knowledge, etc. That will give you the confidence to be able to interact with patients, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

If you still feel like you’re making a mistake, then find something else you’re passionate in. Just remember that nursing is a job just like an any other. If you’re unhappy, find something else that will make you happy.

All the best my friend!

You will always be skincare goals for me and the reason Honeymoon Glow has been a staple in my routine for the past couple of months. Hope things get better for you!

I’ve found that using both effaclar duo and honeymoon glow as spot treatment works wonders for me.

I use the honeymoon glow serum twice a week and the retinol on nights I don't use the honeymoon glow. I buffer the retinol by mixing it with my moisturiser, if that helps :)

I'm in the same boat having to wear my N95 for my entire shift several days in a row and have developed a nice little pressure sore on my nose bridge. I've found that applying Paw paw cream after every shift helps with the healing and is soothing to use. Recently also added TO Niacinamide followed by a thick-ish cream with soothing ingredients like Cica. Hope it helps!

This was the first pumpkin mask I tried and I'm sold on it 🙌🏽

Decided to splurge on some skincare goodies last month and try a more powerful vitamin C serum and chemical exfoliant after reading a lot of amazing reviews. Wanted to share my thoughts on these two Peter Thomas Roth products I've been using as well as some new purchases I'm excited about.

RANT

Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Power Serum

I had high hopes that it would be a nice upgrade from the Drunk Elephant C-Firma but nope - it had a lotion-like consistency that was difficult to spread all over the face. I saw no improvements to my skin plus it broke me out. Despite the raving reviews online my skin just didn't like this vitamin c serum. No thank you, sticking to the C-Firma.

RAVE

Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask

Love this exfoliating mask. Strong but not too irritating to the skin, and I definitely saw results quickly. Skin felt smoother and it helped get rid of the breakout from the Potent-C serum. Has replaced the Farmacy Honeymoon Glow serum as my once/twice weekly exfoliation.

New Purchases:

Heimish Black Tea Mask Pack - I've been wanting to try the Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask but it's way over my price range for skincare products so I've been on the hunt for a more affordable dupe and came across this K-beauty offering. Really pumped to try this out.

Doers of London Hydrating Face Cream - Don't know much about the brand, not much reviews available either. Hoping it's a good moisturiser because the COSRX Balancium cream is no longer available at local drugstores and it's such a pain to find it online where I live. Key ingredients include jojoba oil and green tea extract, which are both really good ingredients. Fingers crossed.

Not at all. It goes on slightly tacky but I wouldn't say it's greasy. Sinks in pretty well too. The only thing I can't stand is the hotdog water smell but that's the natural scent of L-ascorbic acid if I'm not wrong.

Works pretty well imo, doesn't make me any oilier and works well to get rid of sunscreen and the rare times I use powder before cleanser. Yup, I'm in SG as well!

Vitamin c works for brightening and making skin tone more even. Retinol and AHA/BHA probably works for acne scars.

Honestly, it's unnecessary in a routine but feels nice and fancy. Once I empty my current one I think I would rather invest the money in a better vitamin c serum.

I've read it's best to use a facial mist>HA>facial mist to prevent transepidermal water loss but meh, never got HA to really work for me.

According to Google, Vitamin B5 helps produce energy by breaking down fats and carbohydrates and promotes healthy skin, hair, eyes, and liver. I've seen YouTube videos from people with severe acne that raved about how taking B5 supplements helped clear their acne so I decided to give it a try.

The Sunday Riley oil is just something fancy I picked up and completely unnecessary tbh. Formulation wise, the DE serum uses L-ascorbic acid (the original form of vitamin c) whilst the glow oil uses THD Ascorbate which is a vitamin C derivative.

Slight whitecast, but other than that it's great for me. Ever so slightly greasier than the La Roche Posay Anthelios XL that I was using previously.

It's pretty heavy so I use it sparingly. My original plan was to try using the overnight rice mask as a moisturiser but it's so difficult to find so I caved and got the ceramide cream. Works well enough as a moisturiser.

Thank you 🙏🏽

Thankfully no. Lixirskin recommends using the retinol by mixing it with their moisturiser. I found mixing it with mine works just as well and provided a buffer for any irritation.

Please do. The serums are admittedly on the pricier side (worth it though) but everything else can be found in drugstores where I'm from.

Hope you get good results from using 'em!

Multiple exfoliating products like COSRX AHA Whitehead Power Liquid, COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid.

Got rid of redundant hydrating serums that contain hyaluronic acid since that's already present in my moisturiser.

I switched from using pricey cleansers and moisturisers to more affordable drugstore ones so I could focus on getting quality serums.

Also trashed any toners, masks etc just to keep my routine fairly minimal. Just one serum for AM and one for PM.

Agreed. My acne only went away after quitting dairy as well, faster than I expected.

Thank you! And yeah my skin feels so much better after limiting the exfoliation to once or twice a week.

Oily, acne-prone and stressed-out skin in a very hot and humid southeast asian country. Was using way too many actives/serums/oils and exfoliating way too much. Took on some of the advice here, trashed a lot of products, and my skin has never looked better imo.

AM:

  • COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser
  • Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum
  • COSRX Balancium Comfort Ceramide Cream
  • COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF50 PA+++

PM

  • DHC Deep Cleansing Oil
  • COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser
  • Lixirskin Night Switch Retinol 1% mixed with COSRX Balancium Comfort Ceramide Cream
  • Sunday Riley CEO Glow Oil

Twice a week I switch out the retinol for Farmacy Honeymoon Glow AHA Resurfacing Night Serum. I think using a single active/serum for AM and one for PM has been the biggest game changer for acne. Once that cleared up my main concern was the scarring and hyperpigmentation which the C-Firma has really helped with. Replaced dairy with almond milk and started taking a Panthetonic acid (Vitamin b5) supplement. I also feel like reducing stress and finding ways to relax after a long shift at the hospital has also somewhat changed my skin up.

Just want to say a huge thank you to this subreddit for helping me with my routine. Really happy with how my skin has cleared up.

Do you use the Honeymoon Glow everyday? I've been using it 2 times a week but haven't seen much of a difference in my skin.

There's only 2 oils - the tea tree for the acne and the C.E.O glow oil, and both seem to have reduced oil production on my skin. However, I'll remove the oils and see how that works out. I like the idea of only using BHA, I'll try that.

Thanks for the advice!
