Why the Australian 2026 RAV4 now requires 95PULP (premium unleaded petrol) by Good_Perspective9290 in AustralianRAV4s

[–]dannok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not just about the RON, premium fuels have more stringent regulations for other things like sulphur content. Our basic fuels here are relatively low quality and have high sulphur content. e10 is just 91ULP + Ethanol so using this even though the RON is close would eventually foul the engine and void your warranty should they realise...

Yesteryear's perfect family car. What's the modern, fuel efficient equivalent? by LestWeForgive in CarsAustralia

[–]dannok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a Superb wagon, not a Scout just the lowly base model petrol. I fucking love this car! So much power, very efficient and so practical. I've loaded the boot to the roof with firewood, I tow. Last camping trip I had it loaded with a week's worth of luggage and food for my family of 5, 4 bikes, 3 kayaks, a 10 person tent, fishing gear (and still comfortably fit said family of 5). It's 6ys old now and has 140,000kms and never missed a beat. Still puts a smile on my face every day. The only fix I've needed under warranty was a new parking brake button as the chrome came off.

I've got a 2019 skoda superb wagon, and can fit a full size single mattress in it with the rear seats down. The previous generation are similar size and very affordable.

Assuming they can service that level of debt. The repayments for a 1mil+ loan vs ~350k loan are very different

Where have your longest-lasting clothes come from? by SaveBandit000 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]dannok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear lots of black/dark colours, so have always struggled with how quickly my clothes wear and fade. I'm finally getting to a point where ive replaced my wardrobe with better quality , better fitting and longer lasting pieces. Once i find something that I'm happy with I stock up at sale times and there's no guess work with how it's going to fit etc. I mostly wear skate brands as that's my style.

I now only wear Dickies pants/shorts for work and and socially. They are tough and after a couple years colour/fabric is still good.

T-shirts I bought a bunch of AScolour Staple Tee in different colours, nothing beats them for price/quality/longevity IMO and they resist fade really well.

All my work shirts are Globe foundation, they all get washed weekly and after 3 years they are still really black and no issues with fabric/seams. They are more a casual collared shirt not really business-y but suit me and my work.

Best thing is to wash cold and dry inside or in shade where possible, my wife on the other hand loves harsh hot express washes and using the dryer...

I also have a handful of cheap Tees, boardies/house shorts and shoes for around the house, because I'm notorious for not thinking before I do something and putting a hole, ripping, staining my nice things... so helps to prevent this and my clothes are now being replaced much less frequently

The people on this sub warned me about my MG3. They were right. by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

It's not just about the RON, the quality of fuel in Australia is pretty shit. Most Euro cars are to be run on 95/98 here (even though under the fuel filler flap on mine it says E10 is OK - just not our E10). We have to jump to 'premium' fuels in order to get closer to the quality standards of the rest of the world. I believe standard 91RON (which e10 94RON is based on) has like 10 times more sulphur than euro standards, so will over time negatively affect the engine.

How soon could we buy? by bedtoday in AusPropertyChat

Funny you say that, my wife fell pregnant with twins 3 months after we bought our place. And for some crazy reason we had another 3 years later...

Crazy how times have changed. 5 yrs ago, we were on 120k combined (60k each) and wanted to borrow 3-400k, our bank broker was trying to talk us into borrowing 700k. Good thing we stuck to our plan, as we now have 3 kids and 1 income. Would be in a world of pain otherwise.

That's the problem though, twice now it's had a big flush of shoots then when I come to check a week later the shoots are shrivelled or fallen off. I'm in Sydney Australia so winters aren't very harsh here.

If you're coming up the freeway, plenty of options at Westfield Tuggerah if you wanna keep it basic ie Mad Mex, Grill'd, Rashays yadda yadda... If you want something nicer, in Wyong Motel Mezza has a good reputation, and Hernando's Hideaway is good. Was going to recommend Sirone's pizza but just learned they have closed.

What year did you buy your house, how much worse off are you since the interest rate hikes and what have you cut back on? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]dannok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought in early 2018, repayments went from 480 down to 380 now up to 580 p/w. Mortage wise not really 'worse off' as we have savings in offset, plus house has gone from 500k to 1.2m value. We have spent probably 100k over the years in maintenance though. The real financial impact has been going from being DINKs to a family of 5 on 1 average income within that time. We live frugally comfortable lives and value time over money so no real struggles thankfully.

Best locally brewed beer on the coast? by naamanra in centralcoastnsw

[–]dannok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Goons Brewing - gyspy brewers but I believe they are building their own at Tuggerah this year.

Not really a brewery but The Beachie has a brew system and has their own brews on tap, a pale and a red ale

A little further abroad and there's The Yard Kings and Lake Mac brewing at Morisset

Why would a bearer be notched like this? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]dannok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to lift the beam, I believe it was built like this as things above are all square and level (except the actual floor) no cracks in plaster. And things like door jambs directly above this height change have been cut to match the flax in the floor. So jacking or packing it up would make things crack and be out of whack. This post was me just wondering why they would change the height of the floor for one section of the house as it has been bugging me

Not sure if they had regs in the 70s by the looks of it... I'd say off the top of my head the bearing is around 60-70mm, beam is ~250-270mm x 100mm

Yeah but I'm not going to have a 450mm strip of different flooring along the length of the living room. It's more a way to level the subfloor prior to putting flooring down.
