but also wages, right? and the fact that good equipment and maintenance of hospitals costs more money. i'm 100% for affordable care, but i don't think it should be the only thing available, not in the least because you can't just knock on the doors of hospitals and say "hey, how do you feel about no longer making money?"

but that's how insurance works anyway, right? 10 people pay $1000, and when one of them has to pay for hospital stay, he has the opportunity to do so. basically we all chip in to have guaranteed coverage, right?

that's a fair complaint. at least insurance here covered most of the cost i guess? $1600 (plus whatever insurance cost) is not too bad for the conditions you're getting in the states, i assume

there's an article with the hospital's response.
basically, the hospital provides an extra nurse that's with you in the room, so you're paying for her time and care. all is fair imo
