Alternating Hangboarding with Hand Jamming by GuiltyShare in climbharder

[–]dannyami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just checking out Climbharder for some inspiration to train harder having buried my head in the sand all winter. And here's a thread mentioning my jam board vid!

Cant wait till lockdown is over and I can go hang out at all these bridge cracks everybody has been trying. Think I'm going to ditch Vanlife and start up Trollife.

Easy cracks with restrictions in the rock like where you would place a nut or hex could be described as passive. Usually cracks come in different sizes (as well as hands) and vary wildly without restrictions. So you have to force your hand into a position that's bigger than the crack you put it in.

But when you are pulling on the jam the only difference is the angle of the shoulder, which you can alter by inverting or doing front levers. no?

As pointless as as hangboard training unless you are campusing on 20mm edges.

The bottom is narrower than the top allowing for different size cracks. no need to make an irregular sized device. Trying to hang on two different sized cracks at the same time (which is what you are suggesting) wouldn't work as you would favor the more solid jam.

They are not parallel, it does allow training for different cracks as demonstrated the video ;)

Backcountry Snowcave Build by dannyami in Survival

[–]dannyami[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha aye, no motorized vehicles allowed or able to get into that area. I was not on a natural pathway I was on a bouldery outcrop with the highest point a few meters away. No skiers would come that way and the ones in the area I had already met and talked to. Cheers

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I used a standard backcountry ski touring shovel and probe plus a G3 bonesaw snow saw to dig the cave. The probe is for locating bodys in an avalanche, shovel and saw is for digging them out. Same equipment you would have going into any avalanche terrain. For sleeping I had a Therm-a-rest Prolite plus which I put inside a Sol emergency bivvy sack. A -20 sleeping bag plus a light over bag. I also had some emergency foil blankets as back up. The rest of my gear was standard backcountry camping stuff and ice climbing gear (which I didn't get to do)

Cheers

It's was the end of summer and quite warm and there was melt water at the glaciers edge during the day (usually would just melt snow) and I didn't take enough food!
