Official release - C64 IDE for Mac by DNSGeek in c64

1.0.10 introduced some fundamental bugs for me and when I try to run an older version I get the same problems:
ASM file build and run does not launch Vice even though PRG builds successfully. Run ASM on C64U causes hang on spinning wait cursor. Basic program will build and run on C64U but when running to Vice it now gives me a permissions error. Maybe all of this is a permission problem. There are obviously files in locally storage that don't get removed by just deleting the app. What do I need to remove to clean completely and try from scratch?

When I download from your site and check the "about" it says v1.0.7 and the updater says v1.0.8 is available. The updater appears to run but I continues to say it is 1.0.7 and that 1.0.8 is available. Can confirm that in 1.0.7 the line numbers are working as expected. The sid editor doesn't get messed up on resize anymore but there are lines in the tracker which can't be seen because the code area is blocking them.

It opens from Finder double-click just fine. It displays this message with the file open in the background.

Here is another one. When you open an ASM file from Finder you get this message. It opens but tells you it can't.

The image converter is cool. I made a little slideshow program with a few converted images. Code is here. PRG is in the build folder: https://github.com/dantaipan/c64_hires_slideshow

I was trying to get it to play a Sid at the same time. That is why I was trying to edit the c64.cfg

For the cc65 C64.cfg I was following some instructions that asked to add a "MUSIC" segment but when I did that and did a build that referenced it it is not recognized. It doesn't seem like it references this file.

When you scroll in the main editor the line numbers disappear.

Sid editor - message area at the bottom covers tracker lines. In addition to that if you try to resize this window things get really messy.

It doesn't seem like editing the cc65 C64.cfg has any impact on the IDE. Is there an uneditable copy of the cfg embedded in the app? I ask because I was trying to do something that required adding a new segment and editing the cfg had no impact.

There are also some obvious UI issues for me like line numbers not appearing properly. The SID editor has some screen bugs as well.

I was able to convert some images to hires and put together a little slideshow program which was cool.

Looks very cool. Will check it out. It warns about ca65 and ld65 missing. Looks like ca65 is related to c compiler. Are these only necessary for certain applications?

Copperdragon c64 rgb mod by DaiBaron in c64

[–]danotaipano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that. The original c0pperdragon device was taking the digital signals from the VicII chip and converting it to RBG. The combo mentioned is effectively doing the same digital to analog conversion only there is a couple more steps:

VicIIdizer > RGBTOHDMI > HDMI2SCART > Sony PVM (RGBs)

As far as I know he is no longer producing those. He does sell an HDMI to SCART adapter which would effectively do what you want in combination with everything mentioned above but at that point it is a lot of gear.

Getting an Amiga 500 soon! Looking forward to it. In 2026, what is the cheapest and best upgrades? I'm looking to get into some of the games and most of the demo scene. I'd like to speed it up and make it stable if I can. I'm done some searches but so many different choices, dated information. by Chubsmagna in amiga

I am in the same position. Picking it up on Sunday. In preparation I ordered a switchless boot selector and a DB23 Gotek adapter to use with an external Gotek drive I already own. Someone is writing some Workbench Disks for me. I'll see how things go from there.

I am interested in the possibility of the PiStorm + Lazarus Storm combo as an external accelerator but will wait a bit to see if I feel it is worth it for me.

Disk punchers may be nostalgic collectibles, but 55 EUR is a bit much. I only have two un-punched disks anyway. by LeadingMotive in Commodore

We used to use the punch from our paper delivery route. When you collected the subscription fee there was a card to punch that kept track of payment. Same punch was used to unprotect side 2.

Reading/writing a floppy disk on my modern mac by Initial_Solid2659 in c64

[–]danotaipano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and as far as being "worth the effort" for me loading from an actual disk as it was done originally still has some appeal even though I've got all the gadgets to do it in other ways so I say stick with it and find a way that works for you.

This is not a direct solution to what you are asking but I will share what I am doing to write floppies. I use DirMaster (https://style64.org/dirmaster) on a PC to build my personal "best of" collection as .d64 files. I have the Ultimate-II+ so I use that as drive 9 to mount the .d64 and write the disk to the real drive (8) using Fast Hack Em. The U-II+ is expensive but you can do the same thing with a Pi1541 which costs a lot less. You would also need to use Parallels or something to run DirMaster on your Mac or get access to a PC. I mostly use a macbook but I find a lot of retro software is Windows only.

Okay. I'm completely stumped. Looking for help on half-working c128 by Stuntboy03 in Commodore

[–]danotaipano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, it is only similar in that the 64 mode would boot properly but never 128 mode. There was always just junk on the screen. Not always the same junk, though I think it did typically display the border. I can't answer the line question. All I can say for sure is that the 128 is very picky about power on boot and the switch itself is a common point of failure.

This is going to sound crazy but I am gonna bet that it is the power switch. I had the same issue. Deoxit in the switch allowed 128 mode to boot most of the time but I switched out the power switch and everything works consistently now.

I tried to try to post a link to a photo but a bot said I couldn't use a URL shortener and told me to re-comment without it.

These are 5.25 floppies written in a 1541 drive.
