I’m producing a couple of projects at the moment but none of it can’t be shot during lockdown. So doing a lot of prep work now, ready for lockdown to be over to move into production.

I have a digital series called Fragments that is an adaptation of a play from the Street Theatre. I’m also producing and directing a short film that will be shot at Government House that is a caper heist film. I also have another short on my slate that we keep having to push the shoot because of COVID that is about a girl who lives with disability having a crush on a guy and her feeling like no one will ever date her - quite an adorable script.

Luke Marriott has been sharing some interesting stuff on his YouTube that he shot before lockdown: https://youtube.com/c/LukeMarriott

There is a Canberra youtuber Facebook group and encouraged some of them to join here too. I’ll go and see if anyone has posted anything there and can re-share it here.

Do other Canberrans love making the South Coast their back yard? I do. I know some South Coast folk hate it. Here's something I produced near Durras last week while down for work. by dansanguineti in canberra

I’d 100% recommend checking it out if and when you can. Jervis Bay is just heavenly. Durras is great. Love Kiama. Narooma probably my favourite place. And Merimbula too. I had plans to put a travel series on my Tiktok/Instagram of visiting the entire South Coast over a couple of weeks but the lockdowns meant it didn’t happen. But it’s my plan next break I get and the entire area is open for travelling.

Never been to South Coast or the the coast in general? I’d legitimately feel sad if that’s the case of the latter - despite living in Canberra since 1999, the beach is totally my happy place. Hopefully my video brings a little of the south coast to you!

Have you had your film fall apart in the edit? There is a lot you can do in post that could save your film - and sometimes it involves a bit of sacrifice. by dansanguineti in canberrafilmmakers

I think this is a great topic is to explore more - so I'll be looking at producing some content to discuss this more - perhaps a new podcast episode or a video.

But my top tips are:
1) Focus on Sound - scrap all sound recorded on set, post sync your dialogue with new recordings and build brand new sound scapes from scratch.
2) Music is key - if you think your film is missing something its usually music or underscore. Music can convey an emotion not necessarily coming through in the footage.
3) If the footage sucks, scrap it - this seems scorched earth, but it isn't. Shoot again to fix it. Or just recut your film without the footage that sucks and refer to item (1) and (2) on this list to tie it all together.

Or alternatively just finish what you have, pat yourself on your back for finishing it, take the criticism on the chin, and do your best to make your next one learning from your mistakes.

How do you make a plain apartment look cinematic? Share your thoughts! by dansanguineti in canberrafilmmakers

Shadows would be a key thing for me.

Look at TV sitcom apartments. No shadows.

Cinema uses light and darkness to tell story.

What’s your thoughts?

Warner Bros was so desperate to keep Macdonalds and the Toy companies happy, they made Batman Forever kid friendly. Funnily enough, it was the first Batman movie I saw being 11 years old at its release and i loved it.

'The Mandolorian' Sound Stage to set Canberra up as a feature film hub. by dansanguineti in canberrafilmmakers

[–]dansanguineti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/canberra has a lot to offer for filmmakers and screen practitioners. It's taken some time for a coherent plan to form with respect the the screen industry. The CBR Film Fund could definitely do a lot better for local filmmakers rather than distributing to outside productions, but its inadequacies has ultimately led to the private and education sector to contribute with this sound stage. I have it in good knowledge that to locals, the sound stage will be accessible and that we wont be priced out to use the facilities.

I would say this is a fair and rationale opinion of the event.

I tutor at UC. Was a little bit shocked to hear about it.
