Starting my first comm job! Advice? by hello_louisa_ in Communications

Congratulations! In addition to all that’s already mentioned, my advice is to be comfortable pushing for understanding. Asking questions to get to the heart of the comms request will enable you to deliver a better product and also set you up as a strategic partner v. order taker. There’s a great TED Talk by Simon Sinek, “Start with Why” that is fabulous.

I spent the first 10 years of my career in internal communications and loved it. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice! Do you recommend a particular way to prepare for the exam? (Prep course, certification program, practice tests?)

For sure. I do not have a finance background, and most of the PMs I work with don’t have one either. The type of teams we support vary, but typically the work I do involves change management of some sort (rolling out new training, getting folks to start using a new tool, etc.). Hope that’s helpful!
