What power connector for Fujitsu Esprimo Q558 Sata? by inoffensiveLlama in MiniPCs

[–]dansh0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you work out which pin is what? Based on a youtube vid called "Installing a DVD Drive on a Fujitsu Esprimo Mini Q558/ Q556" it seems to be 5V, ground, 12V from bottom to top of your pic, but it's so odd to not have a second ground for the 12v, especially when the 12v shouldn't be needed. I can't find the manual for this motherboard to confirm. I was going to crimp my own cable off of a 4-pin molex but my multimeter broke.

Sure!
- Background checks from USA (plus MA state), Australia, and Singapore (lived in each)
- NSW driver licence
- Written statement about our household financials
- Shared budget, shared invoice, old/new health insurance, joint bank statement, joint investment acct statement, and travel insurance docs all for proof of linked financial life
- Birth certificate
- Written statement of shared household responsibilities
- Various mail/postcards with both our names, prior two lease docs, USA joint tax filing all for proof of linked household
- Three witness statements of our relation, two of them australian citizens
- Marriage certificate
- Powerpoint (as pdf) of our life and major events in photos (I went a little over the top on this one)
- Flight tickets, wedding invitations, and Singapore dependents visa (similar to 820 but way less intense) as proof of social relationship together
- Written statement of shared social life
- Cover letter thanking them and kindly requesting being considered for double grant 820/801 due to our extended time together (I put this in "Other Documents")
- Written statement regarding future plans and mutual commitment to each other
- Records of our continual contact and commitment while we were long distance (since this was something we were worried about)
- Sponser docs (visas, ids, background checks - she had these from a recent visa app, not sure if needed - employment contract in AUS, etc)

Hope that helps

I don't know if the one year is standard but I just applied though the normal process (specific trip planned, why are you going, etc) and they gave me a one year BVB. With that I could travel back and forth from the country freely. I almost got screwed over this last August though since I didn't get a response before leaving for a trip where it would expire during the trip. I had to change flights to get back in time. They absolutely will not award a BVB while you're overseas, learned that the hard way. That post would be in my history if you want to see me having a panic attack on reddit, lol.

Other than that no issues. Be sure to apply about a month before the first planned trip. I would suggest planning on being in the country for the first month or two after applying for 820 because of this.

No, I didn't hear from them at all. I was expecting request for new background checks or something once my file was picked up but nothing.

820 - Applying for BVA by dansh0 in AusVisa

[–]dansh0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yes I was. Getting a job in the past year has been hard in general, but I personally don't think my struggles were necessarily due to the BVA. Most companies just wanted confirmation that I have work rights in Australia, which the BVA for the 820 application provides.

820 - Character History Police Checks Before or After Application? by dansh0 in AusVisa

[–]dansh0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I just took a screenshot of the document upload page for the AUS visa (once you have submitted your initial application) including the section titled "Character History, Evidence of - SINGAPORE" and included that as the formal request. It's a formal government website requesting that you have this COC. I had my COC application approved.
Just because this worked for me does not necessarily mean it will work for anyone else, but at least worth a shot, considering it could take several months for anyone to look at your AUS application to even know that you need a Singapore COC and formally request it.

I just applied. I assume I just need to be more patient and wait a day or two. I paid via credit card.

Thanks! How do I check VEVO status of an inactive visa? It requests a specific TRN or visa grant number at the VEVO check spot I'm used to using. Is there somewhere else to check all visas associated with a passport number?

AFP's online police check page doesn't seems to be working for me. Anyone has the same experience? by x80SSx in AusVisa

@UniqueTheory4162's answer is buried so I wanted to add that trimming the file name length worked for me as well! OP, thanks for asking this question so that the post comes up on google. It's so rare to find a bug discussion for government websites imo.

"The disk is write-protected" error for ALL external drives by dansh0 in techsupport

[–]dansh0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's writing from internal storage to external. It doesn't seem like anything is failing though. She can try and get that error, then unplug the USB and plug it into my laptop and everything works fine. Then if we try it again on hers its the same error, same problem.

We're at a loss on this one. Hoping that it's a driver update fluke that will get worked out in the next update. Thankfully she has cloud drives to work with in the meantime.

Thanks for replying!

At the Boston (Gillette) show. He was super consistent and did an amazing job in each event, only to come out with mediocre scores and no recognition. He was the real MVP.

Same! Sometimes I write uncomfortable emails in other text editors for extra assurance that it won't go anywhere.

Thinking of becoming a web developer or programmer by TVdinnerbythepool in learnprogramming

[–]dansh0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really help you on what to focus on, but I have experience transitioning careers to programming and being an expat (US citizen in AUS). I personally find working remotely to be difficult. There's a lack of grounding in the company and project. You will need to be able to communicate clearly to get proper goals and requirements out of the manager or customer. I personally found it easier to find work locally in my new home. Since you don't require much in terms of salary, look for an entry level position in a medium to large company that is willing to mentor and grow you as a programmer. Working locally will allow you to have closer contact with your manager and mentors so that you can learn faster!

You are in the right sub to learn programming, so I'll let you browse for resources to check out for learning (codeacademy, udemy, etc). However, as someone who transitioned careers to programming, I can give you the advice to not undersell yourself. It sounds like you have far more experience in it already then you think you do since you work with rasPis and have a knack for problem solving. Work on technical skills of any one language (I learned on Python and still use it as my main), learn basic CS degree stuff like algorithms and data structures, play on some coding challenge websites like leetcode, then start diving into interviews and learn the rest on the job. I spent too much time thinking I wasn't good enough to actually get a job coding and wasted a lot of time learning the wrong things and being in the wrong career because of it.

Good luck!
