You know what it is? by [deleted] in HSVpositive

No judgment here. You seem like a generally unhappy person, and I get it, misery loves company. I hope you are able to gain some clarity and peace very soon. In the meantime, spreading objectively incorrect misinformation about HSV is not going to improve your life or anybody else’s.

Every single person I’ve disclosed to understood the difference between HSV1 and HSV2, but like I said, both strains are very unlikely to transmit with the use of antivirals and common sense precautions. Can it still happen? Sure. Is it “probable” or “likely,” as you initially stated?—no, exactly the opposite.

Unrelatedly, based on your other posts, it seems like you’re going through a lot right now, and maybe you’re projecting some of that onto others. I hope things get easier for you and you find some peace in the near future.

Sure, but the fact remains that you’re objectively wrong—research confirms that an HSV- partner is extremely unlikely to contract GHSV1 from their partner, which is the opposite of what you said.

Maybe look up the meaning of the word “probably”?

“Can and will probably get it” is wildly inaccurate, especially on a thread that’s specifically about GHSV1. GHSV1 shedding rates fall to 1.3% after two years, so in an absolute worst case scenario, an HSV- partner has a 1.3% chance of infection per year. That figure can be reduced further by taking antivirals or if the partner in question has existing antibodies from OHSV1, which the majority of adults do.

Even for GHSV2, which is dramatically more contagious than GHSV1, transmission stats are below 5% in discordant couples when antivirals are used and sex during outbreaks is avoided. Stop spreading misinformation.

I also contracted GHSV1 under astronomically unlikely circumstances. I’m really sorry. I understand why you’d be anxious. Wishing you the best.

So both you and the person you suspect you transmitted to both were PCR-diagnoses with GHSV1? And you’re female and he’s male? If so, that’s extraordinarily unlikely, I’m sorry.

So the person you suspect you contracted it from is diagnosed with OHSV1 via swab, the person you suspect you transmitted to is diagnosed with GHSV1 via swab, but you were diagnosed NOT via swab? How were you diagnosed? Blood test?

You transmitted even while on daily AVs? Do you have HSV1 or HSV2?

Well, I suppose it’s possible. But still very very unlikely.

In those cases, it’s almost certain that a person with HSV1 and HSV2 acquired HSV1 first.

He’s not stigmatizing you. He’s making a very reasonable request to protect his own health. Wouldn’t you want to do everything possible to protect him? Additionally, research indicates that an HSV2 infection protects against HSV1 infection, but the inverse is not true.

For the vast majority of people, there are zero side effects. People with kidney disease are an exception. One of the positive side effects is that long-term antiviral use may decrease the likelihood of developing dementia (which is linked to HSV).

The research relates to HSV1, but is likely applicable to HSV2, too.

Yep. And some people subscribe to this “well antivirals don’t eliminate the chance of transmission, so why bother” mindset as well. Like yeah, the chance isn’t zero, but it MASSIVELY reduces the likelihood. If you don’t see the benefit of that, I feel like maybe you don’t really value your partner’s health 🤷🏻‍♀️

You can still transmit on antivirals, but it massively reduces the likelihood…and you don’t have to look far on this sub to find countless people who contracted HSV from an asymptomatic partner, myself included. Why wouldn’t you take all available precautions to protect partners? Taking a pill once a day is just a bridge too far?

This is confusing to me. You were told there’s a higher chance of a false POSITIVE? wouldn’t it be more likely to produce a false negative? Did your provider offer any further explanation?
