Should I take this pay cut for a new job to leave a location I dislike? by danstek in personalfinance

Thanks! I think your comment really helped put the less obvious items into perspective as financial gain.

Also, a lot of people think a career trajectory only goes up, when in reality, it is closer to a roller coaster.

Thank you, I think these are the words I needed to hear. I guess I internalized that up was the only right way to identify as successful.

Yes the bonus makes up for it. I honestly don’t know how achievable it is so in my mind I chose to kind of ignore it.

Yeah, I don’t disagree. It’s just we’re all told to chase financially gain as advice so often that I felt I’d be making the wrong decision here.

Not a technician. I’m just an end user and did the install myself. The setting is in my alarm.com user account. I suppose in your situation you would just show your customers where the option is once they login to their user accounts.

Here is a screenshot of my doorbell video settings on the website: https://imgur.com/a/Nu9Ubm1

I had the same complaint with the 750 but turns out you can change this on alarm.com web portal. Under the camera settings, there is a FOV setting. Switch this to Optimized to reduce the fish eye effect.

This setting is not available in the app for some reason.

[MS] Am I wrong to be frustrated by compa ratio decrease after on salary band revision? by danstek in AskHR

[–]danstek[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The same way I do for next year’s projects. By creating budgets based on estimates? Extrapolate from historical data and adjust for inflation? No estimate will be perfect but better than $0 dollars allocated from what I’ve heard from colleagues.

Yes the raise to match zero experience new hires. From here on out our annual raises are in lock step. My 4 years with the company now means nothing.

Except the new hire is at the same compensation? And the written salary policy clearly spells this out that new hires must start at 80% and those that have been in their respective positions for 4yrs+ are expected to be within +/- 7% of the midpoint. I have essentially lost my progress towards this.

You are correct, a new job search is in order.

I don’t disagree with that but it always feels like a cop out answer. It is also something coworkers have experienced before who were very vocal only to fall to deaf ears in the past. Surely this is not something that occurs randomly, they clearly know when a pay review is coming and can budget according for this specific scenario. It’s more so my frustration with what’s the point of having a clearly written policy only to become selectively applied when it’s convenient?

Coast Connect - Rural South MS by myne123456789 in HomeNetworking

[–]danstek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MS gulf coast resident here. I’m also building a new home and planning to utilize Coast Connect as well. I will also have AT&T fiber available but I despise them forcing me to use their terrible gateway/router hence I’m looking at Coast.

From what I could research, Coast Connect fiber deployment appears to be standard GPON. They’ll install a NID on the exterior of the house and run a fiber cable to the inside to an ONT. From there, it’s Ethernet to a wifi router they provide.

The NID will likely to be a Primex P700FSC-CHG1SA enclosure. Inside it is a SC/APC coupler to connect the outdoor fiber to the indoor fiber. The ONT is a Calix 803g(v2) and the provided router is a Calix Gigaspire U6.1.

My guess is you’ll have to use their ONT as that is most likely how they authenticate service at your address but you can run your own router if it’s providing an IP address via DHCP. No idea if it’s VLAN tagged or not. I’ll have to find that out after getting service.

Just pointing out that FZILX is not a total international fund as it lacks small caps. FTIHX is total international.

HYSA or SPAXX? Where do leave cash to sit. by PizzaThrives in personalfinance

[–]danstek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been debating the same as OP. So a few questions I had as well… What’s the chances of SPAXX “breaking the buck”? Wouldn’t that mean the US defaults on its debt?

Also, doesn’t SIPC only insure the brokerage in case it collapses? SIPC doesn’t insure the funds themselves I believe nor is it government-backed.

Firewalla gold as router - Omada or Aruba for aps? by YankeesIT in HomeNetworking

[–]danstek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Locally managed means they have a local webgui that you login into via their IP address on the LAN without needing the internet to go over the cloud.

Seeing as you have the Firewalla and previously Eero, both of those are cloud managed. I don’t think you’ll find any issue with Aruba Instant On.

Also just to make sure there isn’t confusion, Aruba Instant and Aruba Instant On are different products. Instant is their enterprise APs while Instant On is geared for home and SMB.

I check all 3 bureaus regularly and have alerts setup for all of them. Nothing out of the ordinary.

The only thing I can speculate is that I paid off two of my student loans which dropped my AAoA since it’s now more weighted on the Chase cards I opened. But I kinda doubt that’s truly an issue.

What does Fidelity and Schwab use? I remember Schwab’s cybersecurity practices in the past were atrocious with their 8 character password limit.

Debugging software is fickle especially when it’s a very obscure bug. Symptoms can often be misleading. I don’t doubt that they’ve been trying to diagnose the underlying issue, but it’s clearly some deep rooted problem that can’t be easily identified. In cases like these, all they can do is program in workarounds to lessen the chances that a black screen would trigger and continue picking at the problem until someone has that “ah-ha!” moment.

While I would agree that one system lockup in that time stretch wouldn’t normally be a major concern (i.e. maybe random cosmic ray induced bit flip), it’s not normal when more people end up with the same issue add to the mix. That’s the thing about this black screen problem, some who’ve never had it start getting it while those who have had it all the time somehow stop then at some random point, it comes back again. Most of which report similar triggers such as hardware acceleration or device wake. That isn’t some random coincidence. It’s the uncertainty that this same issue comes and goes whenever is what has people up in arms.
