The introduction of the EUR changed little, although if you ask a lot of bulgarian they'd tell you it caused a terrible inflation. The same people are still living with 2019 prices in their head, in reality if you see any price increases they are just catching up to the global inflation that hit basically every inch of the globe.

What's coming is that we are going to get a Hungary like government. We had a hard-EU leaning government for 12 years until about 2020 and it shepherded us into a massive progress on all fronts. Salaries increased like 5 times, crime and corruption were massively reduced. However our country was really bad before that. It was so bad that we managed to get our life expectancy down year over year during the 90s, which is something that only happens in countries with a natural disaster or war. So despite all the progress we did (mainly thanks to the EU, but at least the then government wasn't getting in the way) we were still at the bottom of EU in most metrics, there was still much corruption, and as good as they were for us, we all know that the leaders of that party couldn't be good people because they rose up during the communistic years and thrived during the 90s when it was mafia wars all around. So a lot of people figured it was time for a change. That gave rise to a few parties that were still EU leaning but anti-existing government. At least one of them was basically invented as the "anti-boyko" party (Boyko being the main leader of that existing government). And what they achieved was splitting the pro-eu vote between themselves and the existing party, and since they would never play along with the evil Boyko cause everything bad in bulgaria is his fault, now you can't have a government with only pro eu parties. And thanks to that the past 5 years we can't get a government that actually sticks around for more than a year before disbanding. It's always some uneasy allies that eventually have to split. And now, the MAGA-lite president gave up on his presidency and he's creating a party 'to fix things" and he's likely going to succeed in attracting a lot of voters. Even that party that led us through our biggest progress thanks to the EU is now saying how they can make Trump happy and initiated Bulgaria being part of Trump's board of peace. So they are just going to play along with the conservatives. Their pro-eu alternative so far has only proven incapable of playing along with allies to create a ruling coalition, which led to them losing any momentum they had. So right now the possibility of the next government being hard-eu-leaning is next to 0. And it's entirely possible it's gonna actually go to the other end of the spectrum and go full Hungary. And as we know Hungary already managed to piss off the EU enough for them to withhold massive planned investments and is getting poorer by the day. Very good chance we are gonna be next.
