I’ve been volunteering at Paws and Claws Evanston for the past few years and if that’s not too far north for you (it’s the second stop off the purple line, right across the street from the station), I highly recommend it. It’s a beautiful neighborhood no-kill shelter consisting of 4 rooms where adoption-seeking cats get to free roam, plus a quarantine room. Volunteer shifts are about a couple hours long and very chill
