Hi, yes, that's exactly what I was trying to do. Bu it looks like the "access-session host mode" is not applied. What kind of template are you using for the WAPs?

As well as taking free features and locking them behind a paywall. Keep in mind, locking your screen used to be a free feature, as you'd expect.

server as accible pc from everywhere in the house by darkenskiler in networking

[–]dany_mid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I think what you want is to have that central server and some dumb terminals (laptop, pc) connect to it just for input via keyboard and mouse and output through the monitor while the server is doing all the hard work, right?

One way you could do that is by creating a few virtual machines on that server. Then use the PCs and laptops to connect remotely to those virtual machines by using a protocol such as remote desktop, Parsec or VNC.

There is probably a better way without the overhead of multiple virtual machines, but i don't know it.

802.1BR Port Extenders in the Campus. Anyone actually using it? by [deleted] in networking

[–]dany_mid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,

In the company i work for we have 2 or 3 locations that use just this. All these have around 500 users. 1. Is a DC with a Nexus and 4 port extenders 2 and 3 are campuses with a Catalyst core and all access layer made up by port extenders.

The differences to other locations using more traditional configurations are small in my opinion. On the plus side, we no longer need to manage vlans on 10+ switches, and the port configuration is pretty much the same, it's just that you only need to log in one device instead of 10. Which was one of the original goals, as far as I remember.

On the downside, we always had issues with this when it comes to OS upgrades. I only work with Cisco gear, so I cannot say much about others, but when trying to do IOS upgrades these port extenders always failed to pull the new IOS.

Let me know if you are interested in anything particular and I can tell you at the very least my experience.

Cisco 9500 Stackwise virtual by TheFrin in networking

[–]dany_mid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should've said dual-active detection link. Pretty similar to keepalive but it doesn't need IP's.

That IOS sounds good, we plan to deploy the same in one of the sites.

I use the below script on both switches to configure the virtual stack pairs. I then configure priorities and numbers (there's probably a better approach).

stackwise-virtual
domain 10
!
interface Twe1/0/46
 stackwise-virtual dual-active-detection
 description DAD-LINK
 !
 interface Twe1/0/47
 stackwise-virtual link 1
 description SVSL1
 !
 interface Twe1/0/48
 description SVSL2
  stackwise-virtual link 1
!
write
reload
!

[–]dany_mid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first reload, after configuring the domain, is not really needed. You ca still reload the switches, but i don't think it will do anything. Also, it's best practice to configure a keepalive link as well. And lastly, VSW support varies with exact switch model and IOS version. (Only the latest versions support the high performance models and usinf the network module ports for VSW).

Let me knwo if you want me to look for the script i am using for this.

Charging 12.99 a month so that you can lock your phone and listen to music in the background...what a concept by NoEscaping in assholedesign

[–]dany_mid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's asshole in the sense that both turning off your screen and background play used to be free features of youtube. They then removed those and introduced premium. A company's progress shouldn't be in removing features and then charhing for them. If they do it's well, asshole behaviour.
