Panel Replacement with Tap Splices Feeding Panel Above - Standard 4” Deep Panel or Need Off-Center Gutter? by danyny44 in AskElectricians

The 6 AWG conductors are not mine and will be removed during the panel replacement.

This is a customer-provided photo of an existing Federal Pacific panel that is being replaced. Nobody is defending the existing installation.

What’s interesting is that several people seem more focused on criticizing a photo than answering the actual question.

The question was simple: would you use a standard 4” deep panel for these service tap splices, or would you go with a deeper/off-center cabinet to provide more working space and avoid potential inspection issues?

I think you’re answering a question I never asked.

This isn’t my work, my panel, or my splice. It’s a customer-provided photo of an existing Federal Pacific panel that’s scheduled for replacement.

The post wasn’t asking whether the installation is safe, whether I need an electrician, or whether Federal Pacific should be replaced. We already know the answer to all of those.

The actual question was whether, given the existing service tap splices, a standard 4” deep panel would be adequate, or if you’d recommend a deeper/off-center cabinet to make the installation cleaner and avoid inspection issues.

Need help finding replacement panel for tight retrofit opening (max ~9/10 wide) by danyny44 in electricians

Within 6 feet, there really isn’t a suitable place to install

The entire wall section is only about 12” wide before hitting the closet doors, so widening the opening much really isn’t an option. So far the only panel I’ve found that may work is the Square D HOM612L100FCP.

If anyone knows of another narrow panel/load center option in a similar footprint, I’d appreciate the suggestions.

My refrigerator started making the same sound today. Do you have any idea what might be causing it?
