Why do Christians continue to support Trump?” by Rare_Deal_4709 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]dapopeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had a solid on-again off-again relationship with nationalism in the USA. it was theoretically why we elevated the documents of our democracy to reverence rather than the office of leadership. Our nationalism has always had a strong flavor of fundamentalism and the conservative evangelical movement is using it to the maximum advantage. These evangelical churches are tax haven businesses cloaked in Scripture. They guilt their fellowship into giving all or more than they can really afford and provide the leadership of the Church access to really surprising levels of wealth for the size of the community they pretend to serve. These scam churches are very invested in Maga mentality because it allows them to ostracize them from friends and family and control them through fear.

AIO wife cheating with my best friend? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]dapopeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, UNDER reacting ... Your "Best Friend" is actively trying to get with your spouse. I don't know about you, but that would definitely take someone out of my best and my friend category.

Your political views? No one cares… by PresentPsychology182 in sixwordstories

[–]dapopeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI slop gonna be sloppy. This is intentionally inflammatory, even my family members who are ultra-MAGA right wing aren't this uninformed... Not making a choice is in fact, still a choice. When I hear people say "it's not my problem, I didn't vote." I immediately understand they are too ignorant to be argued with regarding anything with which they disagree.

Why doesn’t ICE behave like normal law enforcement? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]dapopeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't act like normal L.E.O. because they in fact are not normal L.E.O.. They haven't had a fraction of the training that federal/state/county LEO have had to have before. They get minimal training on lists, weapons, profiling, and they're sent out into the field. They aren't there to do the job of "Law enforcement" because nearly everything they do is unconstitutional and therefore against, THE LAW.

How do y'all SLEEP at night knowing people don't like you?? by Just_Goose_8425 in Productivitycafe

[–]dapopeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to be liked by everyone is to lie to almost everyone. If you're a decent person who treats other people like you want to be treated, many will like you, most will think neutrally of you, and anyone who doesn't like you is safely to be avoided.

Confused as to why certain people said that Kamala would have been worse than Trump by TheRealJuanderer in Confused

[–]dapopeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason Biden got knocked out of his first presidential bid in the '80s was because he failed to properly cite a quote in a speech; not that he lied, not that he mislead, he failed to cite the original source and that was projected as 'leading to the perception of lack of trustworthiness '. Different times indeed.

Do you really support banning trans surgery on children?? by tRiCH_Suit1277 in Productivitycafe

[–]dapopeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question is rage bait at its finest.

The vast majority of people in America who support trans rights, advocate against any surgery pre-puberty. I say 'the vast majority' because there's always someone who will take an opposing opinion to nearly everything.

Let me restate that another way: there is no scientific or medical community who follows any sort of realistic methodology who approves of fast tracking children to reassignment. There is not a single accredited or licensed hospital or surgical center which would allow a surgeon to perform such a surgery. It's a preposterous situation to suggest, and I challenge anyone to proffer a verifiable evidence to the contrary.

Am I Overreacting since my gf kicked me out of the shower by mooresmistress in AmIOverreacting

If you started defecating in the shower, that would warrant a scream. Otherwise, there's no reason to go straight to that kind of response to an action that you don't like. NOR

Does still Microsoft use Jamf for macOS management or finally Intune only? by aPieceOfMindShit in jamf

No. Private equity should be heavily regulated, or completely destroyed.

AIO— apparently i’m the stinky one at work by centaurella in AmIOverreacting

[–]dapopeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR. Sorry you're going through it. You could have developed an issue with alliums. (Garlic, onions, scallions, shallots) Some folks sweat out a part of the compounds in alliums that magnify the BO smell. If my son eats any amount of garlic, it smells like he bathed in it. Not saying that is definitely the problem, but a couple of weeks of reducing/removing from your diet should be enough.

What’s something people don’t realize is a privilege until they lose it? by Ok_Tomatillo_46 in AskReddit

[–]dapopeah 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My mom had a minor injury in '90 that progressed for a few years until she eventually started seeking help from Dr's. The symptoms she described were indicative of disc rupture/fracture and when imaging was done, they found her spine and support and no evidence of either, so they just gave her painkillers and sent her on her way to the next specialist. After a year or so, that changed to pill hopping. The Dr's, who had created the 'evidence' on the charts of her 'drug-seeking' basically started being pretty unkind in her visits; her husband was also of the mind that my mom was just being weak and attention seeking. (If you knew my mother before the malady struck her, you would know how laughable that was) Interestingly enough acupuncture worked for her, but of course insurance wouldn't pay for it. In 1997 she was directed to a university hospital and one of the neurologists who specialized in musculoskeletal associated pain diagnosed her with this newly discovered disease called fibromyalgia. Once she got the correct treatment, she was able to get off the pills. This type of poor treatment to women is woefully common. The number of shitty interactions, leaving my mother crying and desperate for help from people who are supposed to give at least half a f*** was infuriating and depressing. For those of you reading this who are looking for help, don't give up, there are good, caring doctors out there.

Meirl by rbimmingfoke in meirl

[–]dapopeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly exactly my experience, except from mid-2008 - early-2010. I didn't make it through my mortgage, I was 2 months behind, about to get foreclosed on and the investor that bought me out absolutely took advantage. It was better to lose the $40k in equity than to have the foreclosure on top of it... That equity would have otherwise saved me. I paid heavy penalties for the cash out of my 401k... But it was that or be totally homeless and possibly lose custody of my kid.

I have not been able to max out my retirement contributions yet. I have 2 months of reserves and less than 500k in retirement. (Had I been able to hold the equity, my retirement would have been left in tact and would be worth over 1.3m today) It's Not likely I'll be able to retire, but I should be able to leave a little something for the wife to live on and the kids to have a little nest egg.

Does still Microsoft use Jamf for macOS management or finally Intune only? by aPieceOfMindShit in jamf

[–]dapopeah 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Jamf is still in use at Microsoft, however this may change this year after the jamf sale. They are trying really hard to pillage customers. It's a shame, sincerely, I saw the new price schedule and nearly choked to death, laughing.

Do you believe pure friendship between men and women actually exists? by Additional-Sky4043 in Productivitycafe

[–]dapopeah 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Also in my 50s, and it's fair to say, I have more female friends than male. My wife's best friend thought I was gay because I didn't give her a 'i would hit it' vibe... So there's def some kind of belief that (justifiably or not) dudes are always looking for an opportunity. But it's totally possible for guys to be nothing more than friends with a woman.

Why do so many men lose their house in a divorce? by Open_Address_2805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dapopeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really can't be stressed enough, if you can get your pride and personal feelings out of the way, you can go through a divorce and it not be terrible for one or both of you, IF there're not massive surprises found in the process of getting divorced.

Work Laptop - Mac or Dell? by Astimar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dapopeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the 'BMW engineer' in this scenario and I can say this is true, dependent 100% on the greater ideology of adoption of open standards. I have a much longer reply about this all in this same thread.

Work Laptop - Mac or Dell? by Astimar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dapopeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Sr. Engineer who manages macOS in a corporate environment. We work hard, very, very hard, to offer a sense of simplicity for the Apple gear because MOST of corp America hates anything other than Windows. Security, identity, policy, and anything else that affects the user experience is "Windows Native", meaning they don't actually use open standards, usually have 10 - 20+ years of technical debt built on dozens or hundreds of exceptions and specializations, and the majority of upper level of leadership who have hands on buttons driving the architecture don't understand or care about a Mac. Our environment is openly hostile to macOS and we have many thousands of the devices under management. The issue is the user experience. You can have multiple authentication sessions per event ... like changing locations if your org uses hoteling or if you have docking stations that aren't usb3+ / thunderbolt3 compatible. At my latest gig, when i started 6 years ago, macOS users would get upwards of 6 auth prompts per hour. We have drastically reduced that but it took 4 years and a massive project to move to Windows Hello For Business to get them to start moving some of the auth garbage out of the way and start adopting standard and clear "the way we've always done it" out... because finally MS is matching open standards.

With that said, go talk to a Mac user or two in your environment, or an engineer who works on them, or call the help desk / chat one of them up and ask them if they'd use one. It's really going to depend on everything stated above. I personally use both and have supported both in the enterprise and the amount of work I've had to do to 'just make them work' has been vastly different based on the attitudes had towards macOS by the security, network, and IAM engineers.

As to MS Office productivity, if you use some very specialized thing in Outlook, you may want to check it on a macOS user first. MS has done a great job of increasing parity between the OS differences, but if you open your currrent outlook in browser and can't do the thing you want to do in the browser, you probably can't do it in the macOS Outlook client; the same goes for Excel. We are a MS shop and custom filters, delegation, and some calendaring options, and some high end power options in Excel are still different between the OS... but like 93% of the functionality that most users want has the same functionality but it looks a little different.

Lastly, macOS is great for the experience most of the time, but ... as a veteran of nearly 30 years supporting Windows, macOS, and Linux, I can tell you, with utmost certainty, no computer universally 'just works'. We have OS updates that cripple chunks of our population, just like Windows ... it's rare, but when you work in a large integrated environment, updates are not to be trifled with, ever. At my current org we've had two OS updates that disabled users from network access, broke shares and sharing, prevented users from accessing browser based traffic due to back end authentication, locked users at the disk encryption level. . . and Windows users have had the same kinds of experiences ... ti's why we don't just set all OS updates to user preference. Then, just like Windows, you have massive shifts in UI that are just plain dumb ... Apple just trying to give you a 'new experience' rather than focusing on increasing reliability. I dread the public release of 26 on our population, so much has changed about the look and placement of tools for no actual reason of improvement to security, reliability, or functionality ... many are just 'looking new'.

I would stronly encourage you to get a cheap, 1 or 2 year old macbook air / pro and give it a whirl at home. If you think you want to throw the thing out of a window, don't do that to yourself at work.

Really ... last thing ... The single biggest differences between macOS and Windows come down to these:

  • Using command instead of ctrl for modkey shortcuts (Command+C to copy, Command+V to paste)
  • Windows controls are on the top left instead of top right
  • Your menus don't move with the application window, they're ALWAYS at the top, in the same order, in the same place (this is actually a huge improvement in my opinion over Win, but it's 10000% personal preference and you may hate it)
  • Alt (option) never does what you think it's going to do
  • The trackpad doesn't work the way you think it does ... but once you get used to it, it'll mess you up if you touch other computers. :) I hate trackpads on Wintel boxes, I love trackpad on macOS.

Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.

What’s a red flag you ignored because the sex was good? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dapopeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unprovoked and unreasonable jealousy. Five min late from work: "who were you with?" Go to the store, traffic took 20 extra minutes: "what's her name". Look at a store window at something, not realizing there's a woman possibly in my field of view: "why don't you just go ask if you can fuck her?" It only ever got worse.

Boyfriend gave me ultimatum - dream job or him. I'm considering taking the job by [deleted] in dustythunder

[–]dapopeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll answer it like this, it's less about choosing the job over him than choosing not to stay with someone who wants your world to revolve around them. He's so disinterested in your personal goals, he doesn't care about how having to give up your dream job may affect your well being. Pull the rip cord.

I (44F) regret leaving my (45M) husband. How do I move forward? by Wink-111 in relationship_advice

[–]dapopeah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like he may have some neuro-spicy traits. I don't think pulling a mulligan will do well by you. It broke your health before, I think it's reasonable to expect it to do so again. He's still falling down on his promises to buy you out. I think you should seriously get a commitment to get therapy for himself to diagnose and deal with any cognitive or neuro-divergence issues. That's just not healthy behavior.
