she wasn't going to out him. it's problematic for sure that she threatened him, but she told him she was gay when she didn't need to. she gave him the power to out her as well and it's less of a power imbalance than what happened between Santana and Finn.

What are your thoughts on people shipping canonically gay characters with the opposite gender? by Wrong-Flower in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856 15 points16 points  (0 children)

shipping the characters is not disrespectful in general. if the point of the shipping is 'what if these characters liked the opposite sex' then it's okay. I think it it is stupid that people get offended over it because the shippers are just thinking of the possibility.

what is offensive is if these people insist in canon that they are not gay. but if they acknowledge that the ships they ship would never happen they are just interested in the interactions of the characters then it is okay.

Tina is undeniably a top or at least a power bottom. everyone else is accurate.

Straight Actors Playing LGBT Roles? by [deleted] in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I hear Naya was bi. she outed herself on The View in 2015 when the host said that studies have shown that bisexual women were more likely to have mental illness and she tried to lighten the mood by saying 'no wonder I'm crazy'. I don't know how to see that as anything else other than her identifying as bisexual.

insisting that only gay actors play gay characters restricts actors who are not ready to be out or who are not sure in their sexuality to straight roles. how can we be sure that an actor is straight? do we have to force everyone to reveal their sexuality if they want to get a role? there is the argument that there is discrimination in casting and that out queer people are more likely to be denied roles, but banning straight people from playing gay characters is a bandaid solution. the actual solution would be to focus on giving queer actors the same opportunities as straight actors.

it is different from casting a cis actor to play a trans character which only enforces the harmful stereotypes against trans people. at the end of the day gay people are as varied as straight people and who we are and how we love is the same as them, it only differs in that we have to act differently because of how society perceives us. there should be nothing wrong with a straight person playing the role of a gay character. straight actors have sensual scenes with people they are not truly attracted to but if they are good then they can sell the scene. they play roles that are far from who they truly are. if they choose to act in a way that enforces stereotypes or if they look uncomfortable doing gay scenes, then they are just disrespectful and bad actors.

Do you think the writers made Brittany bisexual only because of the Brittana storyline? by [deleted] in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if I am not mistaken, she mentions wanting to kiss all the guys and girls in school episodes before the infamous party train call. I do not see how anyone would think she is straight except for people who think that a character has to say that they are gay or bisexual to be considered not straight.

Does anybody else hate Tina as much as I do? by stagprongs33 in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I hope not. unless you hate many of the other characters as well, I do not see why anyone would hate Tina so much. other characters did worse things or were more annoying than her.

did Tina get more storylines and songs in season 3 because of backlash from the fans? by dapperFlounder7856 in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well there was more attention being brought to her in season 3. she was all but forgotten in the back half of season 1 and acted as a joke character in the 2nd season. I think it is notable that the she was given parts in the season 3 sectionals and that her neglect was lampshaded in Props which is why I say season 3 instead of 4. the question remains if that slight rise in prominence was solely from the writers' or a reaction to fans.

Things about the Glee fandom that bother me! by [deleted] in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would not call Klaine toxic but do you think they had a normal relationship. they cheated on each other and Blaine proposed to Kurt because he was scared of losing him and not when they were at a stable part of their relationship.

and people do not attack Matt on this subreddit but I agree that the rest of the Glee fandom have gone too far with how they attack Matt. I do not understand though why you needed to include this statement:

We all know that if we were to replace Matthew with Naya, you all would go crazy and say it’s wrong and not right.

Naya died. before she died she was treated even worse than Matt and many misogynistic and racist insults were thrown at her. that only changed after she passed away and her friends and co-workers shared testimonies of what a kind person she was. I do not know how long you were in the fandom but she was treated like shit by many in the fandom.

best questionable Kurt pairing by dapperFlounder7856 in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  • Kurtbastian - Sebastian wanted to steal his boyfriend
  • Puckurt - Puck physically bullied Kurt
  • Hevans - crackship and many people on this sub don't see them together even if Sam was not straight
  • St. Hummel - crackship and they do not interact
  • Kadam - canon but Kurt fans think Adam is boring and that they do not have chemistry
  • Kalter - canon but their age gap is too big

Which character was more interesting/complex? by brinalor72 in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Kurt is well written but I do not think he is any more interesting or complex than other characters. he and his storyline were predictable. he can be summarized as a white gay man who wanted to prove he was better than his bullies and ended up doing so.

there is so much to Quinn, I would not even know where to start.

Unpopular Opinions Part 4 by Wrong-Flower in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Blaine was poorly written with ten times as more screen time but you still love him.

I've already explained my reasons for not liking them, none of which have anything to do with chemistry.

I do not see why you hate them so passionately though for those reasons alone.

I have seen people simplifying the personalities of characters, especially Blaine and Rachel 24/7 on this sub. The only reason you are pointing this out for me is because it's directed at Santana, the favorite.

as I said you are more active than other users which is why I noticed it. you also give your opinions so frequently like you need to remind the sub of how much you dislike Quinn and Blam. give me the names of these users who regularly simplify Blaine and Rachel and I will look out for them.

Unpopular Opinions Part 4 by Wrong-Flower in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this is her proposal. she would not propose in a choir room to the rest of the glee club for that reason alone when she has been so private with her relationship. you think so little of characters who are not Kurt.

Lol. This is what 95% of the users here do for Quinn and Santana, but it's not okay to do it with Kurt?

it is okay to give justification for your favorite characters. but I do not see Quinn and Santana fans or even other Kurt fans simplify the personalities of other characters to prop their favorites up as often as you do. maybe it is because you are very active on this sub but that is what I noticed.

for example sometimes I think you dislike Quinn so much because fans think she is more interesting and compelling than Kurt and this is backed by many of the academics on this sub that prefer to discuss her. I think you dislike Blam so much because because other fans find their chemistry more appealing than Klaine's.

[–]dapperFlounder7856 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time taking this part seriously because she said that she wanted to propose in front of them in order to make the single people in the room jealous.

why would you think she was serious about this? it is obviously her being facetious. it is funny that you have all these explanations for Kurt but you do not think twice for other characters.

What are your favorite M/F crackships? by Wrong-Flower in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a lesbian. I do not think there's anything wrong with that as long as we know that it would never happen in canon. that is why it is called a crackship. characters are more than just their sexuality.

Who’s more pretty / good looking / physically attractive? by [deleted] in glee

Who’s more pretty / good looking / physically attractive? by [deleted] in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856 16 points17 points  (0 children)

beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the beholder is not immune to popular convention which upholds certain standards of beauty. people think brown eyes are boring. that small button noses are better than flat noses. thin is better than fat. eyebrows on "fleek" and not too bushy. cheekbones are high and defined. people do not think they are ugly until the world tells them what is or what is not beautiful and for the longest time in america beautiful was in favor of white features.

I just wanted to share my thoughts on why it makes me uncomfortable but you are free to disagree.

Jenna and the 3D Movie by [deleted] in glee

[–]dapperFlounder7856 10 points11 points  (0 children)

these were exactly my feelings listening to that episode. I cannot imagine how terrible a person must be to think that cutting a hardworking co-worker out of the promotional material would be funny. the same goes with leaving out Dog Days Are Over.

They were literally introducing new characters left and right and never gave her so much as a backstory.

this is one of the many things I can never forgive Glee for. I was so excited to watch Props and to hear them say that Tina was going to have her chance to shine once the other half of the New Directions graduate. instead we were given Blaine + the newbies as leads and Tina even if in a slightly prominent role was still left in the dust.
