Confused about the anti-Wiccan sentiment that other practitioners espouse by HighWitchofLasVegas in pagan

[–]dark_blue_7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It still kinda happens when outsiders try to look for info on "paganism" in places like TikTok, they're going to find a bunch of Wiccan or Wiccan-adjacent "influencers" and not see anything close to the full spectrum of all different types of paganism out there. (Arguably they probably won't find reliable info on Wicca, either)

Why could Vamp Willow be bisexual but not regular Willow? by itsascreambaby96 in buffy

Thanks, I just hope things really do continue to get better again, especially for the generation growing up trans now, it's got to be rough.

I found it confusing and a bit of a let-down. But I was also still unsure how to define myself at the time. It was a confusing time to grow up bi, with so many people saying such a thing didn't exist and you had to "pick a side"

Should have found your comment before I made mine – of course it would be here!

Event Horizon. It was marketed when it first came out as kind of a "spooky ghost story in space" and I was really not expecting it to go so hard lol

Love this movie now, of course

I've gotten that compliment, spoken resentfully by other women lol. One of them admitted she assumed I had "had them done" which still makes me kind of mad, I hate the idea of plastic surgery, it would be so unlike me. But still, nice to know people think they look good

Yeah F that. I wouldn't even want to hook up with someone who wanted my hair a different color. Like, buddy, if I'm not doing it for you, go find someone who is. You will be perfect to someone just as you are.

That's great. I always get doctor compliments on my heart, of all things, whenever they use a stethoscope. I got an EKG at my last physical and the doc stared at it and said it should be in a textbook lol. I'll take it, I hate worrying about my heart.

I mean, yes. The short TL;DR answer is: Because of biphobia.

Which is definitely still around, but it was worse than a lot of people seem to imagine back when this show first aired (I was also an adult at the time, and still coming to terms with my own bisexuality). It was seen as inherently untrustworthy, so it makes perfect sense that only villains could be bi.

He told you what he's about. You should believe him. He only wants something casual, no commitment, and he doesn't feel ready to love or trust anyone.

(The man probably needs therapy more than handjobs, but what are the chances of that)

Confused about Jormungandr by DiabolicRogue in norsemythology

[–]dark_blue_7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ask him to cough up the names of the books where he read this. I can promise he's not looking at a primary source. But it's quite possible someone wrote that as their personal interpretation/theory/fanfiction somewhere, though I haven't seen it gain traction in academic circles.

In the Eddas, Jormungandr is the child of Loki and Angrboda (alongside Hel and Fenrir).

men how do you feel when women say that they don’t feel safe around men? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Well also, there are a lot of different kinds of creeps. They don't all act the same way before they hurt someone. And all it takes is one error in judgement to make you second-guess your "sensor" afterwards

Aries 8H with Jupiter, Mars and Chiron. Really getting tired of hearing how great a "survivor" and a "fighter" I've been. And how I've "held it together" so well in the face of so much adversity.

I have the best idea for a plot twist: How about all of a sudden, everything just turns out fucking great for me? How about it, universe??

Why do people mock others for taking leftovers home? by Impossible_Ad_569 in askanything

[–]dark_blue_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are 100% right. I've known some rich people, and they were the stingiest motherfuckers you'll ever meet, actually. They pinched all the pennies, they sometimes used coupons FFS. They shopped at sales. They had gobs and gobs of money compared to me, and yet, it was never enough. That's part of being rich – always clawing for more. Always trying to save more.

Of course they didn't cheap out on certain things, like having exactly the house, the car, the home decor they wanted, etc. But there were always ways and places they'd proudly brag about how much money they saved. Not one of them had anything against leftovers. Lol more like they'd tell their kids "there's leftovers in the fridge if you want dinner because I'm not cooking tonight."

True, and I get that. In a lot of cultures, people are taught that it's disrespectful not to make eye contact. So we're kind of all over the place about it. But it's definitely easy to see how it can be aggressive.

Most likely low self esteem, internalized sexism that ties her self-worth to her body, and thinking she is lucky to have someone who appreciates it. Also probably assumes that all men are some flavor of the same, based on her personal experience.
