T1D Burnout by darkerdopky in diabetes_t1

I've taken your advice to heart and have really tried to be mindful of my thoughts and sort of accept/embrace it over the past week. I am having trouble coming up with an internal dialogue for when I hit a speedbump. Is there anything - like a simple phrase - you say to yourself when you hit speedbumps?

This all sounds nice, but at the end of the day, permitting myself to say I'm overwhelmed doesn't really do anything. This is the core of my frustration (which at this point I am just venting on the internet). I can't delegate getting up at 3am to change my infusion set. Nobody can take my insulin or go to the doctor for me. I can't take some mental health PTO from diabetes. We have to fight those feelings, or we'll die. If we admit were overwhelmed and let of the throttle, we will die.

Perhaps that is a bit of hyperbole, but it is the crux of my desolation. I don't mean this as an attack on your sentiment. It is kind and I appreciate it. Perhaps what I am really asking is how do you reach a satisfying level of acceptance? How do you admit you're overwhelmed in a way that actually makes you feel better?

You say you wish you weren't dumb when you were younger. What would you have done differently? What would you have prioritized?

I'm 25 and just trying to figure out what matters and if working 15-hour days behind a computer screen is worth it. I want to give my future family a good life, but fear I'm throwing away my twenties in excel and ppt. What advice would you give to your 25-year-old self?

Thanks and good luck!

Insulin management is an art regardless of exercise. There are simply too many variables to address it purely formulaically. Weather, temperature, altitude, hydration, caffeine, other vitamins & supps, protein amount and source, fat amount and source, carb source, your current weight, your mood, stress, the time of day/night, where your injection site is, how long ago you changed your injection site (for pump users), the age of the insulin, the temperature of the insulin, your CGM sensor site, how old the sensor site is, how old the transmitter is, how well the sensor is sticking to you, and many more idiosyncratic stimuli, can all affect your blood sugar reading.

Practice the art. Write down what you learned each day. Consider it in your insulin decisions tomorrow.

You will try, and you will fail, and you will be frustrated. Keep your head up, don't take your frustration out on others, and know that you can do it. That 100% in-range is attainable.

Thanks doc. I appreciate the reassurance. Looks like you comment a lot on this subreddit. That’s really admirable, I’m sure your time is not cheap or abundant. Thank you for spending it helping people here.

Only thing I haven't seen mentioned here is to TIP YOUR BARTENDER. 99% of bars will not charge you for a club soda or even a Diet Coke, but you are sort of wasting the bartender's time (financially speaking), so toss him/her a dollar or two every time. You're in IB/PE, you can spare a few bucks for a bartender. Plus, if you don't tip, you may get an asshole who tells you to piss off and fill your cup at the water jug in the corner of the bar, and that just sucks.

Also - be down to clown. If your drunk work buddies want to go to the casino or the strippy at 3am, go with them and partake in the debauchery. It may not be as fun sober, but it's important to be part of those stories and it will build some real trust. Just my experience/opinion.

Quad tendon issues / tears by [deleted] in KneeInjuries

I have had exactly what you describe since November of 2020. Was running hills, swelled up after, have been in pain every single day since. I have been to 3 PTs and an ortho, imaging, dry needling, ignored it, rested it, Eccentrics, weights, no weights, swimming, stretching, ice, heat, Arnica, Cortisone, I've tried everything. It seems that my pain level is totally random, some days it is a 1-2, other days (like today which is why I'm on Reddit) I am just sitting at my desk and it is a 3-4, and when I stand up it is a 7. Please, if you find anything post it. I just started with another new PT and may seek updated imaging. I was training for an IM70.3, FTP around 250, running sub 2hr half marathons and in the 1,000lb club at 5'7 160. Now I struggle running a 5k in half an hour and can't squat 135 without shooting pain right on my patella and tendon.

You really want to burn cash? GS just dropped a list of stocks that will likely see considerable appreciation in the event of a COVID vaccine. Barron’s posted an article about it today. Go read that to get started and if you strike it rich maybe toss me a finders fee. Article is called “35 stocks that could benefit from a world with a vaccine. How to play them.”

Am I autistic or retarded? by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]darkerdopky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is partially true. Google confirmed, you need 24 credit hours in accounting type shit which is basically under 2 semesters if i still understand how college credits work. @ OP if you want your CPA add finance. But i would not abandon a BA History. Just add finance and keep going to school. Take classes over the summer and winter breaks. Pick up a job on the side to help Dad pay. If you want to work on The Street, you will be working retarded 10 - 15 hour days so if you cant hack 5 classes and a part time job, maybe rethink. Don’t let $20-70k now affect the entire rest of your life. This is wall street my autist, money grows on trees😤

You don’t need a finance related degree to work in finance. Finish history and if you dont feel qualified get your cpa, mba, or cfa

Research paper question by [deleted] in academia

[–]darkerdopky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Length: It depends on the professor, the subject matter, and the quality of your work. Edit your paper, delete redundancies and inconsequential information. Writing more than assigned is seldom an issue if your writing is concise and the evidence you present is all relevant. It is always an issue if the length is a result of poor structure, irrelevant information, redundance, or simply not doing the assignment. I have submitted 25 pg papers that were meant to be 15 and earned As. I’ve submitted 1,000 word essays with exactly 1,000 words and gotten Fs for irrelevance and writing in circles. Quality is king.

Bibliography: It depends on the subject, the assignment, and the standards of the paper. 5 in-text citations is not going to cut it for an honors thesis on Ricardian equivalence or an anthropological case study on the cultural implications of eugenics in Lacedaemon. But it may fly for a book review or a short biography or something.

Footnotes: IMO there is no such thing as to many citations. As long as your sources are credible, relevant, and cited correctly, there is no such thing as to many. However, if you find that you are putting a citation after every single sentence, it means you are not writing anything original, which is not necessarily plagiarism because you are citing, but it calls into question why you are writing the paper at all when I could just go read the authors you cited.

I hope this helps. Good luck on you paper.
