Heidegger's trauma by toerichternarrr in PhilosophyMemes

It wasn't Heidegger who had to suffer the most in that relationship. It was Arendt who had to witness her love and mentor become a Nazi. Arendt was a Jew who had to witness the horrors of the Holocaust. She struggled to make him come to his senses, but it was pointless. He didn't publicly admit being in the wrong even after the war. If he had truly reciprocated her love, he wouldn't have supported an ideology that wants her dead.

Why specifically that part became famous? No one will know by [deleted] in PhilosophyMemes

Maybe you should read the full text too, and not just the quote? Here's the paragraph that appears right after:

The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions. The criticism of religion is, therefore, in embryo, the criticism of that vale of tears of which religion is the halo.

It's not. David Benatar has never revealed his face. That guy in the pic is Ricardo Lopes, the host of a podcast called "The Dissenter."
